COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

Cool name. Cloudy amber with white frothy head and some lacing. Sweet raspberry aroma. Sparkling mouth feel and some hint of raspberry to the flavor. Pleasant and refreshing but nothing special. This Purple Haze did not cast a spell on me.

I love this one when I can find it on tap. Malty and sweet. I don't know the inspiration behind this one, but if the Hendrix song had a flavor, it would be this beer

This bottled brew poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized white colored long lasting bubbles that left behind a carbonated slightly hazy dark yellow brown colored body and a good lace. The aroma was mildly colored with raspberry notes and the rest was malty and doughy. It had a slightly tingly mouthfeel with a mildly bitter finish. The flavor was doughy with a mild raspberry note.

Bottle. A very small white head with fine sized bubbles that quickly and completely dissipated. The body was slightly hazy and carbonated with a pale yellow-gold hue. The nose was sweet and mild raspberry. The flavor was sweet and a very light raspberry taste. The mouthfeel was flat, boring, watery and thin. This was a very light bodied beer with very sparse amounts of lacing. Not a fruit beer that I would recommend.

On tap at Taco-Mac: Really cloudy orange color with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma and flavor are both of raspberry. Kind of a flat mouthfeel very creamy texture. Not an outstanding beer.

Light orange and flat with zero head. An as-expected raspberry aroma. Surprisingly well balanced fruit-wheat flavors. OK.

Pours a cloudy orange, with a thin white head that fades quickly. Nose is grassy. Mouthfeel is thin and watery. Tastes like it was brewed with dried marsh grass and cardboard. But it's mainly flat and watery. There's really nothing going on with this one. Besides, where are the raspberries? Just tastes like dried marsh reeds to me.

Cloudy peach color with floaties and a small off white head. Nose is wheaty or grassy and yeasty. Taste like a light fruity soda with some grassy bitterness. Didn't care too much for this one.

Tried this one for the first time in a Flying Saucer pub in Fort Worth. Interesting, but a little too gimmicky for me. A wheat beer with a nice rasberry taste for about the first half of the pint. Then it gets annoying, cumbersome and almost on to downright sickening. One is Ok, but I wouldn't go back for a second.

If you're going to be bold enough to honor a legendary song by naming a brew after it, make damn sure you've got something worthy. What we have here is a disapointing, watery waste of time.
