COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

The only thing hazy in this beer was the chance of raspberry flavor. It smells like a bad lager + raspberry. In my mouth it left the taste of bran cereal. Definately a weird one.

Light hazy amber color; light raspberry character in the nose. Watery, thin, artficial fruity/wheat flavors, refreshing and reasonably tasty but dull and probaly not to be tried again. I didn't find this too sweet.

Aroma: Has a musty smell with no scent of raspberries.
Appearance: Cloudy orange in color, with a nice head and lotsa lacing.
Flavor: Slight blueberry taste, not overbearing, yet not real dominant either.
Palate: Not as carbonated as I prefer. Mouthfeel was adequate at best.
Overall:Good summer beer, however it could have used more blueberry flavor.

Bottle. A golden pink color with a white head lots of rising bubbles. A touch of raspberry in the musty aroma. A bit of zest on the palate with a sweetness at the finish, but it neither stands out as a fruit beer or an American wheat.

Fruit aroma. Light orange and cloudy. Small head. Some wheat flavor but the raspberry was hardly noticeable.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2005 Rerate Had on tap this time around at a Benigan’s in Baton Rouge. Funky, toe-jam like aroma, thinnish mouthfeel, berry flavor not quite as pronounced or natural. Passable as an accompaniment to a meal, but that is about it. Original Fresh fruity aroma - whiff of rasberries. Orangeish cloudy appearance with a trace of sediment. Quickly dissipating head with no lacing. Lot of carbonation wakes up your taste buds. Flavor - smooth wheat flavor with slight raspberry undertones. Impressed.

I surprised myself by really liking this one. The raspberry flavoring is vivid and crisp. Carbonation a bit high. Not much of a head at all.

Tastes like purple--what do you expect. Still enjoy it for what it is, a novelty.

UPDATED: APR 15, 2004 Its kind of a novelty beer. I guess if you drink enough you'll get "Purple Haze all through your brain" Sorry that was chessy. Very little of that raspberry taste, more wheat tasting than anything. I dont really like fruit beers but this is ok, you might get a wine cooler chick to get interested in beer. Overall decent and nothing I will seek out.

Golden-yellow hue. Sticky small white head. Nose of light rapberry, sweetness in the backdrop, dry palate, acidic finish...Nothing spectacular by any means.
