Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2005 Disgusting. Possibly the worst fruit beer ever created, except maybe Sam Adams Cranberry Lambic. Has a nasty, sugary cloying flavor characteristic of spoiled generic-brand cough syrup. I bought a six of these, opened one and tried it, and dumped it. I opened a second to try it, was as bad, dumped it. Dumped the other six down the drain. If it’s possible to make a worse fruit beer, I’d rather not know about it. This is complete crap.

Wow, this is an odd one. The aroma is that parched wheat nose. But, there’s an odd effect when you breathe in deeply and quickly from a pilsener -- it has a sharp presentation, almost like getting water in your nose while swimming. Unusual. Appearance is slightly pink-tinged amber with average crystal head. Flavor is a wee tart, a wee smokey, and wheat-musty. It struck me that this would do well with chili. Palate thinnish.

A interesting rasberry flavor. The overall beer was too weak, probably not to overpower the rasberry. OK if only having one... in you life

I think this stuff smells ok, with a thinly-veiled somewhat stale fruit aroma, but otherwise ok. It tastes ok too but my question is what is it? It isn’t beer, it isn’t a cooler, it is just there. It is as if someone poured some melted snow cone in an already watery ’beer’.

Uninspiring; disappointing. Just totally bland with slight fruity aftertaste and that same generic ’microbrew’ mouth-feel. Abita missed the mark here.

On a scale of one to Smirnoff Ice, this ranks pretty high on the chick-drink-o-meter.

All in all a decent brew with a nice berry taste. Could stand to have a little more flaver.

I was expecting a wheat type beer and it didn’t taste much like any I’ve ever had. Had a slight fruity overtones, but in general it was just a decent beer.

Looked like a hefeweizen, but tasted more like a typical lager. Still, very refreshing with a hint of fruity flavor in the finish

Nice aromatic raspberry aroma and appearance but comes across with an artificial Clearly Canadian feel. Too little wheat and too much raspberry; very thin.
