UPDATED: APR 20, 2010 Tap at Ulysses. Not bad at all. Pours a light, orange-red with a foamy white head. Wheat nose with slight hints of raspberry and yeast. Flavor is very bready, with some mild malty sweetness and fruity tartness. Light to medium in body, well carbonated and pretty crisp. If you like fruit and/or wheat beers, this will be right up your alley.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2010 The best of the Abita 12 pack sampler is the Purple Haze (which is not saying much). Not overly sweet, just a hint of rasberries blended in with a watery and wheat aftertaste.

I don’t care if it’s not a high-brow microbrew I’ve been drinking this stuff forever and always liked it. Light flavor, with a little raspberry but not overly fruity. Some good wheatbeat characteristics with a clean finish and not overly sweet.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Pours a cloudy, golden-orange colored body with a big, two-finger width, dense foam, white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is thin. Lighter wheats and just a touch of tart fruitiness. A bit metallic. Flavor is a little better, but fairly straightforward. Moderately sweet wheats with a light raspberry tartness in the finish. Almost no bitterness and a shorter aftertaste. Light body, smooth, and somewhat crisp with a soft carbonation. Overall, an unexciting, quaffable wheat. The fruit is light and offers nothing with the simple wheat malts. Eh...
