Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

poured from a bottle. Not an awful beer, since I read the label and was prepared. Small head that dissipated quickly. No purple color. Very slight berry aroma, skunky taste.

It’s kinda bad. They put raspberries in beer. I don’t know what i was thinking buying this. Abita makes decent beers, but this is not one of them.

Not great. Not terrible. I don't like fruit beers, so I don't know why I bought this. It's not too strongly flavored like raspberry, so it's not that noticeable.

On tap. Cooper/Orange-red color with thick white head. Slight raspberry aroma. Watery raspberry taste. Combo of rasp and light beer.

Not bad. Fruity wheat beer. Hard to tell exactly what fruit is added. Definitely not my favorite.

From a bottle. Pours clear amber with a tiny head, sweet aroma, a bit like a cider, refreshing with a berry aftertaste.

It pours light golden with a light head. It has a musky smell with raspberries. The taste is that of raspberries with some grass hops. It is smooth on the way down.

Transfer from BA review on 7-19-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – The brew pours a golden color with the characteristic reddish/purplish hazy tinge. It is quite neat looking. The head formed upon pouring was quite big and billowy with a off white-pinkish color. The head faded fast to leave a light amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma was heavy of raspberries and some other lighter fruits. Mixed with the fruit smells was a light wheat. Smells sweet yet refreshing. Taste – The taste begins with wheat and a lighter raspberry flavor. It starts out lighter in raspberry and grows stronger. The raspberry brings with it some sweetness as the taste advances where it collimates more toward the middle of the taste- but it never gets overly sweet. After that, the wheat and raspberry flavors remain constant were they are end up leaving a rather pleasant and refreshing light raspberry flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter side with a slightly higher carbonation level. Both are very fitting for the wheat and sweet fruit flavors and make for a good refreshing fee. Overall- Very easy to drink and quite refreshing. A good beer for a nice hot day outside.

Bottle pour. Hazy golden amber with good white head, but fades quickly. Nice lacing. Sweet raspberry aroma. Smooth light body. Taste is raspberry, cranberry, and light grapefruit. Initially sweet but then balances with tart. Not an abundance of depth (probably why many low ratings), but tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a decent hazy brown to a glossy looking purple perhaps (do I really want to say that, well, okay, I will). There’s a decent one finger white foamy head that dissipates within about less than thirty seconds with a fizzy sound. There’s no lacing whatsoever. The smell has a fairly decent raspberry-esque aroma flowing over some light grainy/wheat tones. The taste took those flavors and adds a nice light sweet feel. On the palate, this one sat fairly light but could also be construed as a medium in body. I would say this was for the most part fairly sessionable. Overall, hey not a bad fruit beer whatsoever, the wheat helps to balance it a bit and make it somewhat enjoyable, however Abita doesn’t distribute to my current neck of the woods so I probably won’t be seeing this again for a while.
