Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

6 oz pour from a refrigerated bottle into a shaker pint. A hint of a head, though not much. Hazy and opaque. Tan to orange. Nose is wheat, yeast, and raspberry. Body is medium-thin. A bit of notable carbonation. Crisp and a bit tart. Strong taste of wheat. The raspberry is much subtler than I expected. There’s also less sweetness than I expected. Fairly well balanced. This would be a great beer for sipping outside in the summer. Light and refreshing.

I first tried this beer a few years ago in New Orleans, and thought it was ok....so I bought it recently to try it again. Didn’t really do too much for me the second time around. Found it to be like the typical shwaggy domestic beer, wouldn’t compare it to any of the microbrews. I only noticed a trace amount of the fruit flavor, as it is added and I don’t think actually brewed with in the process. Is this a beer...or a malt beverage, as it has the body and taste similiar to a malt beverage. Kinda like a fruity Mickeys.

LIght gold hazy, off-white head. Grainy wheat, earthy raspberry, some light floral notes. Raspberry fairly strong.

Twelve ounce bottle from Abita variety 12 pack purchased at Jeff’s Marathon, tasted on April 2, 2015. Hazy amber hue with slight purple (?) color tint, pungent raspberry, unimpressive tart astringent flavor, cheap tasting. Certainly not the best beer from Abita.

Great aroma of raspberries with a hue to match, just lightly red. A little thin but to be expected from a 4.2%ABV beer. Refreshing!

served in standard pint glass. A - moderately cloudy golden tone with 1/4" white head that quickly settles to a lacy surface coating. S - markedly fruity (raspberry) -- somewhat lambic-like -- and malty/wheaty T - not nearly as sweet as the smell suggests, but substantial taste of raspberries. Clear grain/malt taste, mostly from wheat beer base. Short-lived semi-dry finish. M - light, indeed a bit watery, with good carbonation O - goes down very easy. Very good hot weather session beer. {from 5/7/11 notes)

Old rating. Pours a hazy orange color with a modest head. Aromas of wheat, citrus banana and raspberry. Fairly light bodied and refreshing. Tastes of wheat and citrus with a nice tart finish. Not bad.

Nice semi-transparent amber color. Rather floral aroma, not much of a hoppy odor. Very grape-ish/fruity flavor. Tart after taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
