Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

Had a Hugo's in Fayetteville. Pours a pinkish color with a soda pop head. Flavor and aroma are slight raspberries. Drinkable beer. But not a good beer.

Reviewed from notes: pours a light ruby red color with white fizzy head. Light raspberry on the nose with some wheat, and cereal notes; follows onto the palate. The raspberry isnít as pronounced as I would like it to be, but not bad overall.

Bottle pour. Pours a light reddish blonde with a raspberry aroma. Very light bodied beer with strawberry and raspberry flavors. Light wheat on the finish with more light fruit. Not a whole lot special going on with this one. It wasnít bad.

On tap at Slaters 50/50. Pours a hazy orange with very little head. Poor feathering. Aromas of vanilla and orange. Strange taste of orange candy and milk. I'd classify this as a "cheerleader beer". Blah. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I poured a 12oz bottle into a mason jar. It had a best before date of 6/15/14 and cost $2.50 ($0.21 per ounce).

Appearance: Hazy orange color with a slightly pinkish hue (but not purple). Pours to a small, white/magenta soapy head which does not lace or retain very well.

Smell: Typical raspberry beer aroma Ė sweet and fruit, but nothing fake. An underlying lager scent as well.

Taste: Most light-bodied fruit beers tend to be of the general American wheat beer style, but Abitaís Purple Haze is actually a lager, and a light lager at that (it may have been a wheat ale at one time). I donít think this beer is intended to be anything other than what it is: a drinker-friendly fruity beer. While thereís nothing overtly wrong with that approach, it doesnít make for much than simply a drinkable beer.

Fruit beers of this class tend to be rather simple in their approach, and this is a perfect example. Raspberry is, not surprisingly, the dominate flavor. Itís lightly sweet at first and blends with the general wheat/pale malt base, but finishes with a strong tartness. Thatís pretty much all there is here, which makes it rather repetitive since there isnít much in the way of hops or actual lager to concentrate on. However, I like the taste enough to warrant this a positive review. As far as mainstream fruit beers go, you could do a lot worse.

Drinkability: I was actually surprised to see the 4.2% ABV indication on the label, as you do not tend to find craft beers of such light weight so readily available. I was worried the beer was old and wouldnít be flavorful, but my bottle of Abita Purple Haze had plenty of taste. The body didnít feel as light as the numbers indicate, though it definitely does not weigh heavy on my system. Itís crisp and refreshing while in the mouth and would be an ideal session beer for the summer.

Serving: from bottle--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles. Aroma: moderate raspberry. Appearance: average-sized, frothy off-white, initial head with fair lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Murky, light-orange/pink body with many large particles. Taste: lightly sour initial flavor and lightly sour, cardboardy finish with very short duration. Palate: light body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Overall: refreshing, light, unique flavor.

Cloudy looking beer. A fruity aroma but a light fruity flavor. Is a nice beer but not one that I love.
