Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

Transfer from BA review on 7-19-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – The brew pours a golden color with the characteristic reddish/purplish hazy tinge. It is quite neat looking. The head formed upon pouring was quite big and billowy with a off white-pinkish color. The head faded fast to leave a light amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma was heavy of raspberries and some other lighter fruits. Mixed with the fruit smells was a light wheat. Smells sweet yet refreshing. Taste – The taste begins with wheat and a lighter raspberry flavor. It starts out lighter in raspberry and grows stronger. The raspberry brings with it some sweetness as the taste advances where it collimates more toward the middle of the taste- but it never gets overly sweet. After that, the wheat and raspberry flavors remain constant were they are end up leaving a rather pleasant and refreshing light raspberry flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter side with a slightly higher carbonation level. Both are very fitting for the wheat and sweet fruit flavors and make for a good refreshing fee. Overall- Very easy to drink and quite refreshing. A good beer for a nice hot day outside.

Bottle pour. Hazy golden amber with good white head, but fades quickly. Nice lacing. Sweet raspberry aroma. Smooth light body. Taste is raspberry, cranberry, and light grapefruit. Initially sweet but then balances with tart. Not an abundance of depth (probably why many low ratings), but tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a decent hazy brown to a glossy looking purple perhaps (do I really want to say that, well, okay, I will). There’s a decent one finger white foamy head that dissipates within about less than thirty seconds with a fizzy sound. There’s no lacing whatsoever. The smell has a fairly decent raspberry-esque aroma flowing over some light grainy/wheat tones. The taste took those flavors and adds a nice light sweet feel. On the palate, this one sat fairly light but could also be construed as a medium in body. I would say this was for the most part fairly sessionable. Overall, hey not a bad fruit beer whatsoever, the wheat helps to balance it a bit and make it somewhat enjoyable, however Abita doesn’t distribute to my current neck of the woods so I probably won’t be seeing this again for a while.

Drank this bottle at The Waverly on an Ingersoll crawl. Dark kind of fruity flavor. I like!

Not sure why this gets low ratings. I have had this in bottle and on tap. The draft version in my view is better and not as sweet. This is a lovely refreshing beer, aroma of raspberry is there but not strong, it is sweet and little bitterness. I live it and always look forward to a pint when on vacation in Florida.

(US backlog SEP2012 - NOLA) 12oz bottle, luckily available as refrigerated single... Girly-sweet cranberry (ironically more so than raspberry) juice of a beer mix, thin and light-saccharine, extract-laden, Shock-Top-like interpretation of fruit wheat ale as neither ale nor fruit: a composition of artificial compromises. Still drinkable, instantly forgettable thirst quencher, then soon after thirst-creator under the beating NOLA sun.
