2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 bowlnman1990 (36) - Lansing, Michigan, USA - JUN 21, 2011
Bottle at home. Rated against my interpretation of BJCP 2004 guidelines. Aroma: bready, rasberries. Appearance: a hazy medium gold, big white head that quickly disappears. Taste: wheat base overpowers raspberries, very doughy flavor. Palate: medium body, sticky, average carbonation. Overall: not impressed, not very fruity, and the wheat beer base does not seem to make up for that fact.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 DrSilverworm (707) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 6, 2011
12oz bottle as part of abita party variety 12-pack. Lively bubbles, with lots of big ones sticking to the side of the glass. Murky orange color. No head, really. Definitely a raspberry aroma, but it’s very subtle and this primarily tastes like a wheat beer. Slightly sweet, and maybe mildly sour. Crisp, but maybe too sharply carbonated. Drinkable and light, but the finish is very quick, but does leave a nice mild raspberry aftertaste.

Golden, cloudy amber with a tiny white head. Sour wheat and berry smell and flavor. Not my favorite.
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 redtechnj (76) - Williamstown, New Jersey, USA - JUN 4, 2011
Light pinkish color with a thin white head. A light sweet raspberry scent to go along with the light malt. Has a nice blend of raspberries to go along with the light, crisp wheat of the beer. It’s a little tart/sour on the finish. Not overboard with the raspberry flavor. A nice summer beer for sitting in the sun.

Bottle in Miami Airport. Amber brown with a reddish hue, not much head. Strong fruity aroma. Dry raspberry flavour. Fruity aftertaste. First beer with any flavour on this trip across the Atlantic.

Abita Purple Haze smells nice, I’ll give it that. Were you to imagine the nose of what a raspberry wheat beer needs to be, Purple Haze would fit your description. And the slightly rosy coloration looks wonderful, proving the name is more that just a marketing gimmick. But it tastes just like you’d imagine a raspberry wheat beer to taste, and, for jaded Beer Geeks like myself, that means a beer that is much too sweet for any true love to develop. Abita is an odd brewery in this manner; their spring Strawberry brew has just enough fruit flavor to remind you that you (shamefully, most likely) are drinking a fruit beer. But Purple Haze slaps you in the mouth with sweet, clingy raspberry. Can’t be too mean, though, because my wife loves this beer. (2008)
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 ontbeermaker (1261) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 3, 2011
Pretty basic all around. The beer pours what really does look like a purple hazy, it was interesting, The beer tastes like a standard pale ale at the fruity then you hit with a fruity dose at the back, the back is a grape mixed with a kind of cherry, nice finish decent beer
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JRock72 (788) - - MAY 2, 2011
Bottle at Dark Lord Day. Poured light purple with no head. Light fruityness to it but not much else. Overall not bad. Probably would have again.
