COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

Re-Rate 03/25/02 Arizona beer Fest: Nose is sweet, slightly malty, start sickenly sweet, thin, acidic, worse than I remember.

Take Abita Amber and give it just enough raspberry flavor to be noticeable and you’ve got Purple Haze. Kind of odd, actually. Amber is preferable.

Much better on tap than bottled, can be very refreshing, and is an interesting change of pace, but certainly not an everyday beer. My rating is in comparison to other fruit beers; I do prefer it to the lambics I’ve tried.

Too fruity for my tastes. Not a terrible beer, but not a good one either.

I wasnt as offended by this beer as I should have been. It wasnt overly fruity, it wasnt good by any means though. Smooth to say the least?

For those expecting a Lindemann’s frambois, this will sorely disappoint. For those who;ve tried this and think they may be on to something and who haven’t tried Lindemann’s, please do yourself a favor and give it a try. For those who brewed this -- shame on you! Light, fruit sour, fizzy, though it does avoid the cloying mistake by being semi-dry.

Fishbones Rythm Cafe in Detroit had great food and an exciting atmosphere but a poor beer selection. They have all the Abita offerings and, as this one is the one I hadn’t tried, I gave it a shot. Just as much like grape soda as anyhthing else, I guess. Too many of these fruit beers try too hard with the fruit and the result can be sickening - in this case it’s just mediocre.

Sounded tasty, but only it found it to be tasteless like the Oregon honey beer. Don’t waste your time with this one

The interesting bottle led me to buy this beer. The smell was ’confectionary’ and the taste was disappointing. It tastes like someone put grape Kool-Aid in a wheat beer. Not a good brew.
