COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abita Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with fresh raspberries added during secondary fermentation. Subtle coloration, fruity aroma and tartly sweet taste.

I strained to see the pink that some others have mentioned but will leave it that this poured a fairly golden colour with some mild haze. Aroma-wise, I was a bit put off with the raspberry odour coming from the glass; it smelled too much like berry to me and I question the fresh raspberry approach mentioned in the commercial deScription. Flavour was underwhelming for a wheat beer.

Iím giving this a slightly higher than average rating, even though I used to really like this beer. It seems that lately itís lost some of itís flavor. It used to have a good wheat flavor, with a small rasberry hint to it. Now, it seems to taste only like seltzer, with a little bit of rasberry. And the bubbles in this are huge, and you can feel them in your mouth.

Seriously, Iím rating this beer this higly because it is just that good. It is my favorite beer and I think you should give it a shot. Itís a wheat beer (Golden to be exact), so donít expect a very robust taste. It has an added rasberry flavor to it, which I found a bit unnerving before I tried it but very appealing after my first sip. One problem, however, is the inconsistancy with the brew. Sometimes it has a lighter rasberry flavor, and sometimes it has a much more present rasberry flavor. If you donít like it the first time you try it, try it again a month or so later and you might have a brew from a different batch. The batches from the kegs tend to have a much more present rasberry taste and a smoother feel to it. But to put it succinctly, Iíll order this beer anytime I see it in a bar.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2012 it has a tame fruity aroma, a pale red in color might even be safe to call it a light hazy purple color. a subtle taste of raspberry with a gentle finish with no lingering after taste. I really enjoy drinking this beer, it was the first fruit beer i ever tried so there may be a slight bias to this ones ratings

Very offputting raspberry aftertaste, too sweet and not subtly added. Tasted on tap at Brooklyn Waterfront Beer Festival, 6/16/2012.

Aroma is an uninviting combination of light hops and stale Veryfine. Pours a cloudy yellow with a quickly dissipating head. Flavor is boring to say the least - itís not particularly tart or fruity. I imagine if, in my younger (and albeit stupider) days, I mixed Snapple and any light domestic that it might have tasted much like this. Finishes bubbly at first, like a wine cooler, and then completely flat and watery at the end. Itís not awful, itís not great. Itís just mediocre. Would *not* buy again.

Bottle at home. Rated against my interpretation of BJCP 2004 guidelines. Aroma: bready, rasberries. Appearance: a hazy medium gold, big white head that quickly disappears. Taste: wheat base overpowers raspberries, very doughy flavor. Palate: medium body, sticky, average carbonation. Overall: not impressed, not very fruity, and the wheat beer base does not seem to make up for that fact.

For an american beer, this is a cross of a Weizen, and a Lambic. Quite a nice falvour! I had this at the LI Beer Fest Friday (Bottle). Recommended to those who like something atypical and sweet.
