2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Looks and smells like a pale lager. Aroma is not raspberries, rather is pretty much the same grainy, corn notes typical of macros. Taste is similar plus an addition of artificial raspberry syrup. Very one-sided, boring, unimpressive.

Pours light yellow. Slight smell of berries. Tastes of slight berries, yeast, and citrus.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
Not too impressed. This tastes like a wheat beer with fruit extract dumped in - which, I see from the commercial description, is pretty much what it is. Although it claims to use raspberry puree, it tasted pretty artificial and jammy to me. The appearance was cloudy, orangey in colour - looked a bit like a cider. And the aroma was OK - I detected lots of raspberry and lots of other floral and fruity hints - banana, heather, lavender, honey. But it all went downhill once I tasted the stuff. Very odd sweet and sour notes intrude. The fruit and the wheat don’t seem well integrated. Soft and flabby finish. On tap at the Green Leafe Cafe, Williamsburg VA.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Hazy orange body, small fast fading had. Tart fruity raspberry aroma. Slightly sweeter raspberry in the flavour, not much else. Average palate. Pleasant but fairly dull. Needs more everything as is often the case with raspberry wheats. Thanks Harry!

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a light and murky amber color with a medium off-white head. Decent lacing. Aroma is raspberries of course, but really nothing else. It might have something to do with the fact that I was building a deck in almost 90 degree temperatures, but I found this to be pretty easy to drink. Light bodied and very crisp, and fortunately the raspberry flavor is not as overwhelming as it is in other beers of this type. Clean finish. Nothing award-winning in my book but a passable summer beer.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottled. Poured hazy medium golden with a short-lived white head and some stuff suspended in there. The aroma picked up a painful dose of artificial raspberries with a wheaty backing.. sweet, but for all the wrong reasons.. not very good. Wheat and raspberry tartness in the flavor department with the same artifical sweetness.. higher carbonation fills the mouth, and it still isn’t very good. Lighter-bodied and tart, with an overall stale feel. Blech.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Slightly redder, but otherwise average wheat beer with hint of raspberry flavor. A little flat and dry. Rated 8/11/04

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle walking round The Luxor goggling. No idea what the beer looks like, but I can imagine. Fizz, raspberry Pavlova, weak finishing biscuit with drying aspartame afters. Right up there with the most noxious, synthetic-flavoured Belgian fruit concoctions. Tastes like it’s been put together in a lab, not a brewery. Pretty nasty.

2.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle. Sweet raspberry malt aroma - a bit like the sweeter lambic framboise beers. Moderately cloudy - pinkish amber color with small head. Slightly sour, light raspberry malt flavor - really expected it to be sweeter from the aroma. Very little body. Pretty weak and bland.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the Peekskill Brewery. Pours a hazy amber with a white head. Sweet raspberry aromas dominate the light hints of toated malt and wheat. Flavor is basically all raspberry, but watered down from the aromas from earlier. Finishes rather nondescriptly with some toasted cereal. Not my favorite, but at least it didn’t have the burnt nut aroma most of the rest of Abita’s lineup seems to have.
