COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abita Red Ale is a traditional red ale. It is brewed with British pale and crystal malts, Liberty hops and an ale yeast imported from Ireland. This ale has a rich ruby color, lacy collar, pronounced caramel flavor and is a tad "hoppier" than our other brews. Available March thru June.

Pours an amber red with a nice off white head. A bit of sticky lacing on the way down. Smell is a bit hoppy. I detect a bit of citrus and floral hops, although nothing terribly overwhelming. Also a bit of bread and a tiny amount of sweetness, although not much. Taste brings forward some bitterness along with some drier malt. Medium mouthfeel and good carbonation. This is not a bad representation of the style and there certainly aren’t any glaring defects, which is one good thing I can say. However, there’s nothing here to really draw me in. 12 oz bottle purchased as part of an Abita sampler at World Market. Pour is slight hazed orange copper with a large, frothy 4 inch off white head. Aroma is mildly malty, along with a vegetal green pepper aroma. Dull, trending towards off nose. Taste is the nose, though much more focused on the straight forward cereal grain malt. The green pepper vegetal is present towards the back, and dominates the longish finish. Palate is thin to medium bodied, yet still manages to be a touch watery. The carbonation is a bit under what I would expect, and the aforementioned aftertaste detracts.

Pours clear reddish amber, thick creamy off-white head, and foamy lacing. Notes of pine and malt. Taste is hoppier than necessary for this style; this brew would benefit if it were more balanced.

Pours copper with a big slightly tan head. Aroma is bready and lightly toasted malts with a little bit of earthiness and copper. Flavor is light bready malts, with a hint of caramel and a nice earthy bitter finish. Not bad.

Draft poured in a plastic cup at a bar on Bourbon Street with a surprising amount of taps. Pours a mostly clear reddish copper color with a big off-white head. Aroma of apples, pale malts, spicy hops, citrus, and some tart funky yeast. Flavor follows suit pretty well. Medium-bodied, with soft carbonation and a tart, malty mouthfeel. Really unusual beer, but worth a try.

Pours a nice orangy red color. Very nice malt nose with a nice hop aroma. Beer is very smooth and well balanced sweetness and hop flavor.

I enjoy this seasonal the best, but it seems to be out the shortest than any of the others. It has some hop to it. The Red Ale is what the Amber wants to be.

Gusher alert when I took the cap off this one. Malty caramel aroma rather mild. Golden body with big off white head. My hops were gone from this bottle just some sweet malt.
