COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Real Louisiana satsumas, golden wheat and the finest barley create Satsuma Harvest Wit. Pale and cloudy, like the haze on a hot summer day, this white beer has a sweet and subtle citrus flavor that is cool and refreshing. Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit is a summertime brew that’s Louisiana True.

Pours a nice golden color with a lot of carbonation and a big white head. Strong wheat and light citrus and spice on the nose. More body than I expected and not the crisp clean finish either. That is not bad just not what was expected. Nice, slight citrus flavor finishes nicely. Good Summer beer.

Hazy golden/amber with a frothy white head. Tart wheat, grainy lager and citrusy spice aromas. Medium body with a calm mouthfeel. Decent flavor is same as aroma, with wheat, a yeasty grainy lager taste, and mild citrus and spice. Great hot weather brew.

Hazy light yellow. Aroma is a mix of fruit and crayola. Not a bad taste. I can definitely taste the mandarins and has a drying finish. Quite the relaxing drink. If only it weren’t so dry!

Floral hoppy nose with a thick head that tapers. The appearance is golden and cloudy with some lacing. Smooth entry with a somewhat malty and lightly carbonated mouthfeel. Citrusy finish that includes a light hoppiness. One of their best summer seasonals.

12oz bottle. Pours a hazy, not quite cloudy, light orange with a small white head. Aroma of sweet orange and a bit of spice. Flavor with more sweet and spice with a bit of tang in the background. Coats the palate well, almost syrupy and finishes a bit dry. Probably the best seasonal offering from Abita, perfect for hot Louisiana summer days.

Dear Aurelius - I picked up a six at the Publix on Blairstone - was going to hold one out for you since it was the last six! Pours a hazy light orange with delicate soft white head. Fresh fruity aroma with hints of marmalade oranges and some sticky orange marmalade. Flavor has some subtle sour notes with some yeastiness, a hint of orange, some coriander and a bit of biscuit-like maltiness. Mouthfeel is pleasantly thick. Somewhat surprised - not completely disappointed that I had to buy a six just to get another rating.

Dear PorterPounder - Beat you to this Abita, but I’ve got one held back out of the six for you. Pasty wheat beer aroma, with light citrus. Decent label that looks like a 70’s Soylent Green set piece - chrome, graphic arts intensive, stylized oranges and grain. Sunny, cloudy, orange-yellow brew with a poofy white foam head. Rather pedestrian and plain. Oranges over a garden variety wheat beer, a little starchy, dry and not very sweet. Medium to medium-light body, with a long, mild orange peel/pith bitterness. Need to add another jolt of fruit juice to this to make it interesting. Bradfordville Publix.

Had this on-tap at the Abita Brew-Pub in Abita Springs, LA. Beer poured an attractive yellow color with nice white head that lasted a little while. Aroma is citrusy, with wheat and coriander coming through. Flavor is almost dominated by the citrus taste. Mouthfeel is good. This is a refreshing beer.

On draft at the brewpub. This was a solid wit and pretty full flavored. Wheat and lemon are strong in the smell and the taste has a slight citrus bitterness combined with the normal wit flavors. I have never had a Satsuma, so I imagine this is providing the difference of flavor. It is pretty good.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2009 A special on this date at the Abita Brew Pub. Pours a golden orange juice like color with a small white head. Leaves only little bit of lacing. Nose is distinctly citrus and yeasty. Taste is an interesting and (going by the name and commercial description); predictable twist on the traditional Belgian Wit. It tastes like a nice classic wit with the taste of satsuma (a variety of orange of Oriental origin and widely grown in Louisiana, for those unfamiliar) nicely blended in. Spices like coriander and clove also apparent in a nicely balanced combination. Sweet, herby/spice finish.
