draft at dba, New Orleans. medium golden amber pour, Citrus hops, strange chemical rye hop burn. Some sweet fruit forward maltiness. Sort of jumbled with little cohesion

16 ounce pint - $6.50 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Lightly hazed, amber-toned body with no more than a half inch of ivory-hued head. Smell: The latest Abita Select smells of liquor-dunked toast, golden syrup, vague notions of berries, a hint of citrus, and sugar-rich cotton candy. Taste: Pale malts, zesty rye grain, and caramel candy. Heavy on the candy, as it’s a bit too sugary. Wavering berry accents. Lemon and grapefruit citrus fruits join a boost in rye toast points. Medium-plus bitterness, but it’s smoothed over by all the sweetness and booziness. More simple syrup, a bit of honey, more caramel, and just a bunch of sugar on the warming finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A fatiguing beverage, as there’s just too much residual sweetness present and a more than conspicuous alcohol character.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2010 Tap at Mellow Mushroom Mobile. Pale yellow with fading white head. No apparent nose. Taste is very bitter and astringent with a chemical leftover taste on the palate. Huge rubbing alcohol flavor. This is one of the worst Abita beers I have ever had.
