COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION HISTORY OF THE BEER STYLE The word "alt" means old in German and refers to the tradition of making beer before lagers became available. Alt beers are German brown ales that are modeled after the types of beers that are produced in Dusseldolf, Germany. These ales are fermented at lower teperatures and are aged longer than typical British or American ales. This results in a much cleaner and more balanced taste in the finished beer. Our Kaiser Alt is a stronger version of this style. THE ABITA SELECTION Our Alt beer is similar to the commercially produced alt beers that are made in Dusseldorf today, only stronger. It is made with German Weyermann malts and is hopped and dry hopped with German Perle and Spalt hops. This gives the beer a very malty character and a pleasant hop aroma and aftertaste. The result is an aromatic dark brown ale with a sweet malty taste. FOOD PAIRINGS Our Kaiser Alt beer is very versitile and compliments a number of dishes quite well. In Germany, it is traditionally served with pork dishes, but it also pairs well with almost any red meat. It would also be excellent with almost any barbequed dish.
