Trying this one after a bourbon barrel offering was a mistake, didn’t detect much. Reddish hue, some chocolate in the nose. Thin palate, okay. On tap at McGregor’s.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 corby112 (1904) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 1, 2012
Draft at the Pour House in Westmont, NJ.
Pours pitch black with a one finger light beige head that quickly settles into a thin lasting ring.
Roasted malt aroma that’s slightly smokey with hints of dark chocolate and peppery spice. Along with the chocolate there are hints of oatmeal anise and coffee bean.
Palate is on the lighter end of the spectrum with an assault of zesty spice, overly roasted malt and boozy heat. Lots of burnt malt with hints of coffee roast, oatmeal and dark chocolate. Heavy spice presence with lots of pepper/peppercorn, licorice and cinnamon. Odd assortment of flavors but not really much of an oyster flavor. Finishes with a shit ton of booze/warmth in the finish. Abrasive flavor profile and the abv isn’t well masked making it harsh and hard to drink a whole glass.

A little salty, much like a dry stout, not really anything to behold. It has a smooth mouthfeel.

Draft @ Sunset Grill and Tap, Allston, MA. Served in a snifter. Aroma had a nice roasted malts, nuts and chocolate. Taste follows nose with a bitter-sweet chocolate. As it warms you can pick up salt / oyster notes. Fuller body. Finish was somewhat dry. Really enjoyable stout. Don’t past it up on draft.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 NachlamSie (2134) - Tennessee, USA - NOV 22, 2011
Pint from draft at Thirsty Monk. pours near black with a thick head. The aroma is salty and chocolatey. Palate is fairly dense with a sharp flavor. I get notes of nutshells, salt and cacao. There is an underlying suggestion of tart, dark fruits. Kind of reminds me of how some Duck Rabbit beers taste. Not too bad.
