COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Released February 2004. Our Saison was brewed with Pale, Wheat, Cara pils, and Cara Munich malts. Black pepper and lemon peal were used sparingly to add to the spiciness of the brew. Special Belgium ale yeast was used to ferment this refreshing brew. Target and Perle hops were used for bittering and Saaz hops were used for flavor and aroma. The result is refreshing, dry, pale yellow, light body, zesty brew with tremendous aroma and flavor. The malt, spices, hops, and esters produce from the ale yeast make interesting aromas of pepper, spice, citrus, yeast, and alcohol.

On my recent trip to New Orleans, this was my favourite Abita beer by a country mile. On tap at the Red Fish Grill. Bright orange-amber, hazy, towering bubbly head. Mouthwatering aromas of elderflower, vanilla cookies, lychee fruit, and dusty pepper (the longer I spent, the more aroma notes became apparent. Zesty refreshing palate, yeasty and fruity, definitely peppery, with a spicy floral element that is hard to pin down. Very very good!

UPDATED: JUN 18, 2009 On tap @ Strange Brew. Hazy straw color with a nice white foam, nice lacing. Mild yeasty peppery aroma. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Citrus fruit flavors of oranges lemons, and pale malts. Had a surprising fresh hop burp to finish. 10/30/07.

Draft. Body-hazy light brown with a medium ring of bubbles and an ultra thin patch of bubbles. Nose-medium malt, very floral, lightly dusty. Taste-rose water, very light lavender, very light lotion, black pepper, anise, light raw/unrefined, very light almost unnoticeable flower petals. An absolutely beautiful yeast strain, maybe one of the cleanest yet most flavorful yeast I have ever enjoyed in a saison. The brewer does a good job with the selection and implementation of the spices, and somehow perfectly married the spices and yeast. In short: one Goddamn good beer, especially for Abita.

Inviting Belgian aroma, with lots of fruit and yeast. Clear gold. A super clean beer -- tangy, medium sweet, nicely bittered. Goes a bit vacant at times, but eminently drinkable. The finish is tangy, biscuity, lightly astringent and abrupt. A damn nice session beer and a bit more than I expected from Abita.
