COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION Released November 2010 History of the Beer Style Porters originated in Great Britain in the 1700s and were the beer of choice there until the mid 1900s. The British brought these beers to American colonies where they remained popular until Prohibition. These dark brown ales have begun to regain a customer base in the US during the last 20 years with the craft beer segment. Porters can range in color from a brownish color to almost black. Our selection is a dark brown porter that is aged with the finest natural vanilla beans. The Abita Selection: Vanilla Porter Our Porter is made with British pale and American caramel and chocolate malts. We also have flavored it with a hint of vanilla to add a pleasant taste and aroma. This will complement the sweet malty flavor of the beer. Since the beer gets so much flavor from the malts and the vanilla, there is not a lot of hop flavor. There is just enough bitterness to complement the sweetness of the malt. Food Pairings Our Vanilla Porter is a perfect complement to grilled steaks. In fact this beer style is where the name porterhouse was derived. This beer is also excellent with spicy barbequed dishes, especially pork ribs. It also pairs well with grilled chicken and vegetables. Desserts, especially chocolate ones, are perfect with this beer. ABV 6.4% Color 35 Lovibond IBU 35
