COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our weizenbock is an American style strong wheat beer. It is made from 50% malted wheat and 50% malted barley. The wheat is used to give a distinctive flavor and because of its high protein content, a light hazy color. We use an American wheat yeast strain that will give the beer a fruity aroma and flavor, but not a clove flavor that is associated with German styles. We use Cascade hops to give a slight citrus flavor, but only in very small amounts so the flavors from the wheat and yeast will be predominant. This beer is not filtered so it will be cloudy in appearance, but will still be very refreshing even though it is 8% ABV.

On tap this date at the Abita Brew Pub. The latest "select". Poured a very cloudy bronze color with a persistent head that left a lot of lacing. Nose is primarily of sweet malts but with some clearly noticeable clove notes. Excellent balance of malt an hop with distinct but understated citrus notes. Sweet fruity finish.

Clean golden beerm very nice white head that stays for the drink, when poured properly, of course. Mild wheat and yeasty aroma with hints if vanilla and citrus from the cascade hops. Medium to light body. Quick malt wheat flavor finished by an even quicker hop bitterbess. Leaves the mouth relatively dry. Too easy to drink, though this is not a recommendation for you kidz who don’t like the taste of beer. Foamy lacing in your glass. Pretty. Admire it. Prosit!

On tap at Max’s in Baltimore, 4/22/10: Hazy deep golden orange with a thin ring of white head. Has a lightly sweet toasty wheaty nose with some peppery clove and orange zest. Body starts with average fullness and fine carbonation with some light fruits and clove spice before a drier biscuity finish. A decent attempt at the style, but could use a more authentic yeast strain.

Tmac, John’sCreek. Hazy dark golden. Helles Bock made of wheat. Creamy head. Dry, nice wheat character, lots of caramel too. A touch of honey flavor in the finish. Fruity aroma. Very nice. Impressed with this Abita offering. Yum. I’d drink it a lot. 4,4,6,5,14

Tap at Churchkey. Clear golden color, large bubble head. Aroma of rye bread and light spice, very nice. Taste is very bitter and very dry, but not really very pleasant; lacks balance. Overall average.

16 ounce pint - $5.75 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Served up an opaque, caramel-colored body. With a generous pour there was only room enough for a thinnish, white head. Smell: Aroma smelling of, well, malted wheat with sweet-scented notes of caramel candy and sliced bananas liberally dusted with coriander and given a small hit of lemon zest. Taste: Leading tastes of sweet caramel squares and toffee encompassing the predominating tangy malted wheat. Zip of spice character. Emerging flavor of grainy bread as you encounter the additional boosts of banana and citrusy hops. Modest bitterness. Drying, malty finish with a bit of lingering alcohol warmth and coriander. Mouthfeel: A bit beyond medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Fairly soft, smooth mouthfeel. Drinkability: Boy, Abita is just cranking out these ’Select’ beers, aren’t they? While by no means the best, it’s a solid, pleasant weizenbock. Surely it’s worth trying a pint? Right??
