COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Working with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board (LSPMB), Abita Beer announced that it has established ‘SOS – A Charitable Fund’ that will assist with the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill.

The fund has pledged that 100% of all money raised will go to charity. In addition, the Louisiana Seafood Marketing Board will play an important role in advising where the money can do the most good. An advisory committee is being established as the donation process and grant procedures are finalized.

The centerpiece of the fundraising effort is a new charitable beer created by Abita. The brew, called SOS – A Charitable Pilsner, will generate 75˘ for every bottle sold. This Abita Beer is a message in a bottle...a distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast. For every bottle sold Abita will donate 75˘ to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill. This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with Pilsner and Wheat malts. It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops. It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma.

Pour is a yellow/orange, with a white head that recedes quickly. Nose is of honey, slight citrus, and some hops. Taste is of bitter hops with a light sweet taste of honey. Even though there is some malt it is very light on the tongue with good carbonation. The ABV is noticeable.

Draught at some bar on Frencman Ave in New Orleans while hanging with Kiril. This was also passable, but Abita is never really something I will seek out. Always nice to have it closer to the source. Lightly buttery, some sweetness, some light herbal and citrus hops.

22 oz. bottle thanks to imtimrhodes. Pours clear, light orange with a nice, bubbly head. The aroma is corn, wheat, bread, spruce, and a little lemon. The flavor is mostly bitter, with a fair malt sweetness. The palate is light to medium, bubbly, and crisp. Overall, this was surprisingly good. Drinkable, subtle, and a good mouthfeel.

My buddy bought this because he loves Abita. I was game so we opened it up. Poured into a standard pint. A - Pours pale yellow with a thick pillow of one finger white head leaving thick sheets of lacing down the glass. S - Some grassy hops up front with a bit of spiciness. Some lemon, bready malt, and some wheat. A touch dry toward the end. A good balance with all things appearing to be in equal proportion. T - Nice hop bite up front giving way quickly to a mix of citric hops and plenty of chewy malt. Finish is pretty dry with some lingering bready yeast. I prefer beers from this style to be clean and crisp but this one was still very enjoyable. I just wish I could have enjoyed this one on a warmer day.. M - Medium light body with light flavor and moderate carbonation. Chewy feel with plenty of bready yeast in the finish. D - Pretty good. A good beer overall for a good cause. I like my pilz to be a lot cleaner and crisper but I still enjoyed this one quite a bit.

22oz bottle -

An enjoyable, but somewhat sweet pilsner. It seems to lack that sharp pilsner bite that’s a calling card of a quality pils. Kinda wheaty in flavor with fruity angle, hops are a bit earthy. Easy drinking and enjoyable.

Medium yellow color. Sweet to star, then gets a bit dry, then with a bitter grassy hops after taste. Good but I’m not sure it is really my thing. Somewhat of a filmy finish. Serving: Bottle
