COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Working with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board (LSPMB), Abita Beer announced that it has established ‘SOS – A Charitable Fund’ that will assist with the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill.

The fund has pledged that 100% of all money raised will go to charity. In addition, the Louisiana Seafood Marketing Board will play an important role in advising where the money can do the most good. An advisory committee is being established as the donation process and grant procedures are finalized.

The centerpiece of the fundraising effort is a new charitable beer created by Abita. The brew, called SOS – A Charitable Pilsner, will generate 75˘ for every bottle sold. This Abita Beer is a message in a bottle...a distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast. For every bottle sold Abita will donate 75˘ to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill. This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with Pilsner and Wheat malts. It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops. It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma.

Big bomber pour. Nice, white foamy head. Golden yellow, with a tinge of haze. Piney aroma, slightly soapy, pils malts are very noticeable. Tastes are very well balanced, just a slight sour/bitter wash, maybe a bit of sweet on the finish. Medium body, more carbonation than other pils brews. Finish is a bit slick, but satisfying at the end. Overall, a good brew for this style. I just think I would have liked to see it be a bit more "in your face" style, something that really sticks out. I like that Abita has made the effort to develop a craft brew for a good cause.

Tallahassee, Fl. - New Leaf Market - 22 oz bomber. Nice medium golden pour with a sticky white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Sweet aroma with hints of honey and juicy fruit gum. Flavor is sweet as well with some honey accents, a bit of a bitter hoppy bite, some grassy notes and a bit of fruitiness - pears perhaps. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Pretty solid.

Pours a clear straw yellow - not inspiring, but typical of a pilsner, and I do admit to some prejudice in favor of darker beers. At least the white head is fairly thick and fluffy. Aroma is strong, crisp, malty and more than a bit fruity, mainly banana plus a little apple and a little pear. Flavor is crisp and malty, about average for a pils, with some fruity undertone. Texture is quite fizzy and lively, leaving a nice malty and somewhat fruity finish. A toast to all those helping restore the Gulf!

Bottle. Pours a very hazy gold with nice white head. Aroma is interesting, some Pilsner and wheat malts with a bit of citrus and some grassiness. Flavor is unusual to me, has strong Pilsner and wheat malt profile, it is sweet, some pungent citrus and grass, light acidity, very earthy, pepper and a nice bitter at the end. Mouth feel is medium body with lively carbonation. Overall, very interesting beer, takes a few sips to adjust to it.

A solid brew, nice balance. It has a mild malt sweetness and quite a bitter finish. Overall very drinkable, don’t notice the 7 percent whatsoever.

Good cause, good brew! Pours clear yellow gold, small head. Aromas of freshly-cut grass and bread, subdued. Flavors of sugary malt and zesty spices with some lemon and sweet iced tea notes. Great balance, leaning more toward malts than hops, but the hops bitterness is there to provide just enough herbal kick. Easy to drink with a clean, refreshing finish. Try it.

Bomber pours a cloudy gold beer with a frothy white head. Scent of malts. Taste is bready and lightly sweet.

Thanks to my brother for sending me a couple of bottles of this beer. The beer pours a clear gold color with a white head. The aroma is basic pilsener with some pilsener malt and lemon notes. The flavor is a mix of malt and grassy hops with quite a bit of sweetness. This is maybe a little sweeter than your traditional pilsener, but other than that it is pretty good. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Easily the best beer I have tried from Abita.

Golden pour with a generous head that lasts throughout and leaves some lacing. Hoppy and lemony nose. Smooth and malty start with a lightly carbonated palate followed by a pleasant, moderately-hopped finish.

Pours a bright, shining, gold color with a small but persistent head that leaves more lacing on the glass than one would expect, given the head’s size and thickness. Slightly sour on the nose, wheat and yeast notes are apparent in the aroma. In the taste, sour hops come on immediately up front segueing into sweet wheaty malt taste with notes of grape and apple, and then finally the bitter hops kick in to form the finish.
