Working with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board (LSPMB), Abita Beer announced that it has established ‘SOS – A Charitable Fund’ that will assist with the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill.

The fund has pledged that 100% of all money raised will go to charity. In addition, the Louisiana Seafood Marketing Board will play an important role in advising where the money can do the most good. An advisory committee is being established as the donation process and grant procedures are finalized.

The centerpiece of the fundraising effort is a new charitable beer created by Abita. The brew, called SOS – A Charitable Pilsner, will generate 75˘ for every bottle sold. This Abita Beer is a message in a bottle...a distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast. For every bottle sold Abita will donate 75˘ to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill. This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with Pilsner and Wheat malts. It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops. It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma.

Bomber rom ldhughes3, many thanks. Bottle states a weizen style pilsner.... Huh? Golden hue that is slightly hazy capped by a foamy white head with good retention. Nose of bread and grass and hay. Taste follows in order with a enough bitterness to stay even keeled. The 7% ABV is masked as the body is thin and light.

Aromas of bread, caramel, banana, clove, corn, and floral hops. Clear gold, rocky white head, good retention. Off-dry, subtle flavors of peach yogurt, some spicy, bitter hoppiness. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, frothy carbonation, and a very clean, bready finish. A very refreshing combination of a clean pilsner and a subtley fruity hefe; the perfect Summertime beer.

Just another beer ratebeer has deleted my rating for. So lets give this one another go. This is a cloudy golden premium lager with a huge white head. Its aroma is fruity and the flavor is fruity, earthy, grassy malt. Very good... a pleasure to do dinner with. Here’s to a good beer and a great cause. Thank you Abita!

I bought this because I like to support a good cause. Nice gold color, big head, this is my first Abita beer. Smells like a lager for sure but the taste is thick and malty. Easy to drink but a little strong to be drinking more than one at time. Interesting and now I’d like to try Andygator. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-07-2010 04:17:09

22oz bottle in a lager glass. Pours golden with a lacy off-white head. Aroma of pale malts and light toast plus a little floral hops. Flavor about the same. Average texture. A decent beer for the style, but not the greatest beer.

Sampled at SBWF-11 Slightly hazy golden. Fresh and fruity aroma. Bready maltiness with cereal notes. A bit too much alcohol.

Bottle. Poured a hazy pale with a creamy white head that had a thin layer lasting. Aroma of grain and hints of lemon. The flavor found lemon, grass, and light spice. Light to medium body, light bitterness, and an easy session beer.

This is an interesting mix. You can smell the pils malts but with a sweetness. Deep golden color with minimal head because it was on tap. The palate was a little thin, which was fine because I had it with a heavy meal. There was a light hop sharpness and a sweet tinge from the wheat. Still, there was a strong malt presence. I could also sense alcohol with this one. Easy to drink.

Poured from a bomber to a pilsner glass. Appearance: Clear and golden colored. The wheat malts dont really cloud it up. Frothy, tigh bubbled head that stuck around. Head lacing galore! Very good looking pilsner! Aroma: Hoppy but nothing just blow your face off. Very clean smell. Again don't pick up too many wheat malts. Taste: Crisp, clean and refreshing. If someone is looking for something to try to get away from the big three. This would be it. It's very good. At 7% ABV I can't taste it. I'd love to sip this and be out on the beach or a boat somewhere. Aroma: ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
