COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Working with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board (LSPMB), Abita Beer announced that it has established ‘SOS – A Charitable Fund’ that will assist with the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill.

The fund has pledged that 100% of all money raised will go to charity. In addition, the Louisiana Seafood Marketing Board will play an important role in advising where the money can do the most good. An advisory committee is being established as the donation process and grant procedures are finalized.

The centerpiece of the fundraising effort is a new charitable beer created by Abita. The brew, called SOS – A Charitable Pilsner, will generate 75¢ for every bottle sold. This Abita Beer is a message in a bottle...a distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast. For every bottle sold Abita will donate 75¢ to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill. This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with Pilsner and Wheat malts. It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops. It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma.

22oz bottle -

An enjoyable, but somewhat sweet pilsner. It seems to lack that sharp pilsner bite that’s a calling card of a quality pils. Kinda wheaty in flavor with fruity angle, hops are a bit earthy. Easy drinking and enjoyable.

Medium yellow color. Sweet to star, then gets a bit dry, then with a bitter grassy hops after taste. Good but I’m not sure it is really my thing. Somewhat of a filmy finish. Serving: Bottle

Bomber served in glass. Alcohol hidden well for a pilsner. Sweet citrus aroma with a hopped up taste. Somewhat disappointed in the watery finish, would like to see some more flavor linger. Overall, not bad and 75 cents of my $5.00 going to a good cause. Bravo Abita!

Pretty nice. Good hops and malts balance. Light but still had a body and a definite hop profile. Masked the alcohol exceptionally well given its lighter flavor. Much better than the usual Abita beers.

If you compared this to the Rogue Morimoto Imperial Pilsner it just can’t hang with it. It is a good buy though, $3 or $4 and the proceeds go to help clean up the shores so you have to give them props for that. The beer just didnt taste anything worthy of being called an Imperial. It had some sweet citrus fruit like taste with a good pine bitter ending. This beer would be good with some fish or shrimp, maybe a shrimp poboy to be more exact.

22oz. Only $4, a really impressive price considering, especially considering the 75c donation. I only thought this was OK, though. Had a sort of unnecessary bite to it. Clear light yellow color, very minimal white head. Nice light crisp carbonation. A lagery pilsner aroma with an evident alcohol bite. Some spice. Sort of an acidic lemon citrus acidic taste. Kind of a light sweetness, some bitterness. In my notes I mention that "I feel like I can taste the ’imperialness’". It was good for what it was, but I had rated a bit too many beers last night to finish the last bit of this. Fortunately the bit that I wasted was so relatively inexpensive. I wish more bombers sold at the $4 price-point.
