Working with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board (LSPMB), Abita Beer announced that it has established ‘SOS – A Charitable Fund’ that will assist with the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill.

The fund has pledged that 100% of all money raised will go to charity. In addition, the Louisiana Seafood Marketing Board will play an important role in advising where the money can do the most good. An advisory committee is being established as the donation process and grant procedures are finalized.

The centerpiece of the fundraising effort is a new charitable beer created by Abita. The brew, called SOS – A Charitable Pilsner, will generate 75˘ for every bottle sold. This Abita Beer is a message in a bottle...a distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast. For every bottle sold Abita will donate 75˘ to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill. This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with Pilsner and Wheat malts. It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops. It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma.

Good beer. Good look. Good cause. This beer has my vote. I hope they continue brewing it for a good long while.

This is an interesting beer because of the balance between sweet malts, and bitter hops. Pours a beautiful gold color, and the best part about this beer is that my drinking can be charitable, helping Louisiana’s waters get clean.

Bomber from Casa De Oro. Muted grainy nose with a hint of yeast. Fairly grassy with a decent hop flavor. Decent malt balance and a fairly clean hoppy finish.

This is a flavorful beer with a little bitterness. It gets major bonus points in my book for being a charitable beer also. Well worth the money just for the beer but it's even better because the profits go to a good cause. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drank from a 22oz bottle. A clear color and a nice light bitter flavor. A good drink for a good cause.

Golden yellow with a big white foam head. Aroma of yeast and grain. A little grassy herbal hop flavor but it’s faint in this bottle. Nice pils but I doubt I’d buy it again

I really like the idea of this beer from the description, I just wish they had picked a different style. It tastes like a cheap lager to me, though it is at the upper end of that distribution. It’s slightly skunky like a lot of lagers, but is milder in everything, making it palatable.

Slightly hazy goldeny orange colour with a white fluffy head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is bready malts, mild grainyness along with soe floral and slight citrusy notes as well. Flavour is bready, but quite sweet malts along with some citrus and floral notes. Ends quite herbal and hoppy. Mild alcohol sweetness as it warms up, but otherwise pleasant imperial pils.

Light hazy gold, large white head, adequate lacing. Aroma is malt, honey citrus. Light bitter and light sweetness. Medium body, spicy grain, light citrus. Flavor is a little bland but the balance of bitter/sweet is OK. Finishes with a little bitter citrus.
