2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Copper pour, nice white head. Aroma is slight pine and citrus, quite a bit of semi sweet toasted malts. Taste is slightly piney hops, a bit floral with caramel malts and a slight sweetness. Mild bitterness, especially for a self described "west coast" ipa. The malts overpower some promising hop flavors. Medium body, average carbonation. Below average ipa, especially when compared to the description. A bit more focus on the hops here would have improved this considerably.

A clear golden body with a white head that had good retention and lace. Aroma had a nice mild caramel malt presence and hop aroma had a nice floral quality upfront with notes of pine and mild citrus. Flavor was slightly sweet and moderately bitter. Dry finished light yet full flavored. Liked it.

2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from beer club. Pours slightly hazy gold with a strong white head and some carbonation. Not much to the nose, pine and citrus on the pallet. Not a bad beer but at 65 IBU not my thing.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
The weather forecast predicts the first days of spring tomorrow and Sunday in this part of Europe, so this seemed like a good choice to start the weekend with. Seasonal, bought online. Deep orangey peach colour, equally hazy, under a milky, yellowish white, stable and nicely lacing head. The aroma shouts IPA in all directions: dry-hopped (and ’green’ to the point I can smell the pellets), vivid, fruity, floral and delightful, just fit for ’spring weather’, I suppose... I get hints of orange, pink grapefruit, pine resin, aged cheese, artisanal honey, field flowers and roses, vanilla, banana, apple cake, freshly grated ginger, gooseberry, canned apricot, tonic water. Taste kicks off with a vivid, refreshing fruitiness, fresh grapefruit bitterness already announcing itself combined with mango, peach and pineapple, refinedly sweet, honeyish touch countered by the subtle saltiness we all know and love from this style, sufficient carbonation with somewhat minerally effect, very subtle hint of lemon peel sourness, caramelly and slightly toasted malt background, supporting a strong, peppery, slightly salty and resinous, spicy hop bitterness lining the mouth cavity and ensuring a long, dry, bitter finish, very quenching, with the high floral and orange tones of the Amarillo cleverly blending in with the lower, leafier, but still very elegant bitterness of the Centennial. Well done.

1/5/15. My, this is terrible. I was excited since I liked Wrought Iron. My mistake. Hazy orange pour with a small khaki head, basically no lacing. Awful aroma, seems old, which seems impossible... West Coast style? More like English style... and old. Chalky, floral, black tea, aspirin, lemon peel. Oy vey. Mrs. Owl took a sniff and wouldn’t even try it. Chalky flavor, aspirin, floral, dog food, earthy, burnt caramel. This is a mess.

Poured from bottle into a ping glass
Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed orange amber color with a two finger head of billowy white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a tons of foamy level lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is big and resinous of a pine hop smell. Along with the pine are other hop aromas of a grapefruit citrus and a grassy nature. Some sweeter tangerine aromas and a bit of a mango smell are there as well, mixing with the rather strong hop (for a brew of only 6.2 % abv.) and a very light cracker smell to produce a crisp and hoppy west coast style aroma overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready and hoppy taste, with the bready flavors being of a smooth light malt nature and the hop being initially almost entirely of a pine nature. Some fruit flavors of tangerine and pineapple as well as some caramel sugar are present from the start sweetening the brews taste, but with these fading however as the taste advances. With the fading of the sweet so too comes more hop flavors as well as a transitioning of the bready flavors to that of a more crisp cracker flavor. The hop flavors that join the initial pine flavor are as would have been anticipated from the nose, with tastes of grapefruit and grass both there. While the fruit fades after the initial taste, it makes a slight resurgence at the very end, mixing with the crisp crackery malt and rather grapefruity and piney hop taste to leave a rather sharp resinous flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. A bit of a higher carbonation level as well as a lighter body may have been slightly nicer for the resinous hop flavors of the brew, but even with that said, the feel was still rather decent.
Overall – A rather nice crisp and resinous west coast style IPA at a good price and, with regards to most resinous west coast style IPA’s, it has a very modest abv. Not too bad…

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Classic looking IPA pour, with an amber colored body displaying some haziness. The carbonation was brisk and formed a two finger thick head. The aroma was of some pleasantly floral hops but a little on the lighter side. The hops were of relatively light bitterness, revealing a tart citric taste upon first sip. The beer turned spicy mid palette, and finished with some orange peel flavor. The malt backbone was light, and simple. It was mid summer when I purchased this, because the sales representative in the shop I went too was passing out free themed pint glasses to those that bough any Abita six packs. Next year I will try to grab it when fresher, because this beer is better than what I thought it was going to be.
