Ripe, red Louisiana strawberries are harvested at the peak of the season in the early morning chill. The scent of the juicy red Ponchatoula berries fills the air as they’re picked and pressed for Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager. The end result is a light, crisp lager with just a hint of strawberry sweetness.

This is an okay fruit beer. I like how understated the strawberries are, but they taste medicinal with some artificial sugar added.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 8/19/2013. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy golden straw color with a 1-2 finger moderately dense and rocky light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big ripe strawberry, strawberry jam, wheat, shortbread, cream, and light floral. Nice aromas with authentic strawberry notes and moderate malt presence; with solid strength. Taste of ripe strawberry, strawberry jam, wheat, shortbread, cream, and light floral. Lingering notes of strawberry, wheat, shortbread, and cream on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance of strawberry and malt flavors; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.2%. Overall this is a nice fruited lager style. Good balance and robustness of strawberry and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

A golden body with a fast fading white head. Toasted malts and strawberries on the aroma. Flavor was similar. What I liked was the strawberry flavor did not seemed forced or with that artificial flavor. It was slightly sweet but overall well balanced. Nice smooth finish.

Tastes like a glass of strawberry jam. Would be great with a peanut butter sandwich. Decent beer for a summer evening.

$1.65 Bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours a hazy golden with 2" of soft white head. Smells of strawberry... lots of it! Tastes very strawberry with some light grass. Almost a Kool-Aid flavor. Tasty & light, but not something I’d seek out.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2013 As a beer lover, I should by all accounts hate this one. It bears a strong resemblance to strawberry Kwik. But dammit I like it. Go ahead and make fun of me. I deserve it.

Bottle at Old Chicago. Pours a hazy earthy gold with a white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a combination of sweet strawberry and earthy/musty grains. Flavor starts mild with sweet grains and finish is a combination of musty grains and sweet strawberry.
