Ripe, red Louisiana strawberries are harvested at the peak of the season in the early morning chill. The scent of the juicy red Ponchatoula berries fills the air as they’re picked and pressed for Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager. The end result is a light, crisp lager with just a hint of strawberry sweetness.

Bottle. Aroma of strawberries is evident as soon as you pop the top. Not too much head and dissipates quickly. Crisp and light, not bad but I prefer their Purple Haze for fruit beers.

Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is of strong of strawberries, yeast, and a hint of some citrus. There’s nothing subtle about the strawberries on this one. That’s about all I can pick up. Watery finish on the end. Not good at all.

Bottled. Beer is clear, light gold with a thin, vapory, diminishing.
Aroma is challenging. It’s packed with heavy notes of buttery diacetyl and cloying, fake strawberry flavor/aroma—evocative of BooBerry Crisp cereal. Otherwise malty with light notes of toasted grain and cereal; Everything else is smothered in the diacetyl and candy-like strawberry.
Down the hatch...The flavor is light-to-moderately sweet, lightly acidic with a shorter, sugary-smelling, trace bitter finish. Fruity handcream in the retros. Totally undesirable.
The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain/husks), with notes of diacetyl and artificial/plasticky fruit candy. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, husky, unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation. Ye gods! Scary stuff.

Looks exactly like ginger ale, tons of bubbles rising from the bottom, on the side of glass, and fizzingly up into a large (but quickly diminishing) bone white head. Smells nothing of strawberries, but instead brown sugar, skunk hops and cheap adjuncts. Taste is bitter lager hops, dry, lemon, and maybe a bit of kiddy candy strawberry candy. Doesn’t taste like real strawberries, my guess is added syrup. Aftertaste is strawberry.

12 oz bottle...2007...pours a pale straw color, a nice little frothy off white head....strawberry aroma not very strong...an undertone of sourness...totally smells like a strawberry kids cereal!!!...fun...palate is delicate and well balanced...nice strawberry flavor on the front...the back ends like a miller lite...pleasant...:) So I got curious and added a guinness to the abita...and its really really tasty, highly recommend...."No doubt, add a stout!"

Bottle. Aroma is that of Captain Crunch Berry, no joke. Flavor is that of light strawberry. Probably would go really good with a desert of some kind on a nice hot spring or summer evening.

Light aroma of strawberries and wheat. Pours light yellow with a thin, bubbly head. Very good mouth feel. Very light flavor with a pleasant strawberry quality. Not fake, sugary. Good Summer beer!

Bottle. Pours a light straw color, with a bit of haze, and some reddish sediment (strawberries?) in the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is light malt and strawberries. The flavor is not much else. A bit sweet and a fairly light body. Almost more of a cooler than a beer. But, enjoyable for a change of pace. But, I wouldn’t have more than one at a time.

Shared with a friend (thanks, Tyler) at RFD Washington. This is a bit hazy, and relatively flat. Unfortunately the overall impression of this brew by everyone involved was best encapsulated by Tyler (who is a big Purple Haze fan), who described it as "kid’s toothpaste in a glass." Only for the fruit lovers. (#2773, 4/5/2007)
