2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a dark burgundy color with great clarity given its shade. I like its head - a three finger light tan color with nice retention, and excellent texturing. Even after a while, it still remains a half finger high, leaving very nice, thick lacing down the side of the glass.
S: Toasted caramel malts and chocolate. Very faint in general - there’s nothing wrong with it per se, but it’s so aromatically boring.
T: Again, not really flawed, but so damn mild and even watery. Chocolaty sweetness to start, a candylike midtaste, with a vaguely toasted finish. And that’s about it. I can chug it, at least.
M: Clean, damn near bone dry, and thin. This makes it super easy to drink, but the watery factor detracts some. Good carbonation.
O: The ultimate in inoffensive beer. There’s nothing bad or good here - really, it just exists in the market place like white bread exists in a grocery store. And money no object, would you rather have white bread or the artisanal 9-grain stuff? Thought so.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Yes! I love a surprise. Bottle at Hickory Tavern. Pours brown/black with tan foamy head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, toasted marshmallow. Taste combines those with some good Willamette hops...so you get sweeter and savory notes. A good "deep" brown with layers of flavor.

Bought 3 bottles poured them all (one at a time) into a pint glass. Nice dark color, couple fingers of tan head. Tastes malty but not really sweet, which is good. Easy drinking, nice buzz after 3.

Surprisingly smooth flavor on the front end with chocolatey and nutty aroma. Creamy thick head and dark chocolate in color. You can taste the chocolate and caramel notes and the finish is slightly tart.
