Abita Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of British pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate-toffee like flavor.

Pours a mostly clear reddish Amber color with a thick fluffy off white head. The aroma is brown sugar, brown bread, and some chocolate. The taste is dark roasted malts, some faint black coffee, and bitter dark chocolate.

My first Abita brew. Kind of weak for my taste preference. Though drinkable itís certainly far from what I would enjoy regularly.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a fairly dark brown with beige head. Lots of lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt. Taste is again roasted malt, with very slight bitterness. Seems a bit watered down for a brown ale.

12 oz single bottle purchased at Mollyís Spirits and poured into a pint glass. Deep brown appearance with a moderate light brown head and average dissipation. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, nutty malts, toffee and light roast. Similar flavor, adding a moderate earthy/roasty bitterness, a light malt sweetness and a hint of smoke. Medium body with ample carbonation and a light dry, bitter finish. Not bad, but kind of hard to drink and it just seems a little off. Pairing: Widespread Panic - Dog Song > Fishwater, from 03/31/92, The Inferno, Steamboat Springs, CO

Deep brown, slightly cloudy pour with a nice beige head. Toffee/burnt sugar aroma, a little chocolate. Sweet toffee, a little chocolate, a little thin but nice flavour

November 4th, 2013 - New Orleans is Abita territory - something I never knew - but itís a great opportunity to see how and why the city has taken a shine to this line of beers, and whether and how it competes with all the other libations folks are sloshing around in the streets, from cups and mouths alike. First is the Turbodog, readily available, and sweet and sticky, to match the hot southern air. The color is a deep burnt brown, made darker by the sultry atmosphere of our bar. On the nose I get a nice, fresh hop smell, almost sweet, and light, reserved and conservative. Everything about the flavor is light too: light flavor, light hops touch, light body, but the hops does cut deeper and more intensely in the aftertaste, mingling with some sugar sweetness. The different flavors donít jump out at me as unique or special, but itís a solid brew for listening to live music, where the focus is on your ears, not your tongue.

Pouts dark brown ;medium-sized , beige head. Aroma of toffee , caramel and hint of chocolate . Sweet and smooth taste with slight bitterness in the end. Rather light body. Not bad , though too watery for the brown ale.

Medium dark brown with a nice light tan head. Not much of an aroma. Very smooth almost as if it is watered down too much. There is a hint of toffee flavor but I didnít taste any of the chocolate. Its not bad but nothing much to talk about.

Pours a dark brown. Thick two finger khaki head. Nice retention. Nice lacing.

Aroma is chocolate malt. Toffee too. Thereís some coffee in there. Smells like a typical brown ale.

Tastes a little sweet. Little chocolate, little toffee. Itís a little creamy. Its also a little watery. It is malty sweet and hopped enough to be slightly bitter.

Mouthfeel is medium. Not as heavy as you might think. Its light enough to be drinkable anytime and also refreshing. Finishes bitter and dry.

Overall, its really tasty. Its not heavy. Its refreshing. It has good flavor. You canít go wrong. Totally worth it if you can find it!
