porterhouse (926), Alna, Maine, USA May 28, 2008 (Bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/westborough/julio’s-liquors/461.htm target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours clear dark brown with some rubyish highlights. Big tall tan head slowly recedes to a thickish persistent foamy cap. Nice malty aroma of caramel, nut, brown sugar and vanilla. Mouthfeel light-medium full, maybe slightly thin but about on par for style, fairly smooth. Lots of foamy rings and patches of lacing. Flavor was good but not quite up to the expectations of the aroma - lightly nutty with hints of toffee, caramel and brown sugar, perhaps some light milk chocolate. Pretty decent brown ale.
SuperDave70 (766), Arizona, USA Sep 4, 2008 Dark brown pour with a thick foamy tan head. Aroma of burnt malt, molasses and funky yeast. Flavor wasn’t nearly as interesting. The burnt malt seems to overpower everything else. A bit thin on the palate. Not too impressive. ucusty (1062), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2008 Thin dark pour with a fluffy khaki colored head. Yeast, roast, and maple on the nose. Roast, coffee, and chocolate. Unbalanced nbutler11 (154), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 27, 2008 Pours a watery black from the bottle with an almost fizzy tan head. Yeast and faint molasses on the nose with flavors of dark cocoa, toasted malts, and copper in the taste. Appears to be a stout, but tastes very much like an unbalanced brown. Biddle_Brau (135), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Aug 26, 2008 Dark with ruby highlights and thin white head hardly a hint of aroma. Slight burnt roastiness/coffee thin palate (seems typical of the Abita’s I’ve had). Not sure if this wants to be a stout or dark lager with the roasiness but it’s not what I’d expect from a brown, either. kseecs16 (537), Westmont, Illinois, USA Aug 26, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear dark reddish brown with a big foamy tan head. Aroma was rich malt, nutty with notes of chocolate and caramel. Flavor is dry nutty roasted malts with a hint of sweetness. Creamy feel with a medium body.
