Commercial Description:
Abita Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of British pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate-toffee like flavor.

mostly caramel flavor in a slightly bittery seltzery bubbled brew. yeah its a bit creamy is suppose. hints of something going on hhhmmm seems like they want to keep it a secret. dark brown brew with hints of amber. nice malt base that with the hop character lingers well. + a point. stone ground wheat bread aroma. alcohol hidden well + another point. somewhat unremarkable.

Pours a watery black from the bottle with an almost fizzy tan head. Yeast and faint molasses on the nose with flavors of dark cocoa, toasted malts, and copper in the taste. Appears to be a stout, but tastes very much like an unbalanced brown.

Dark with ruby highlights and thin white head hardly a hint of aroma. Slight burnt roastiness/coffee thin palate (seems typical of the Abita’s I’ve had). Not sure if this wants to be a stout or dark lager with the roasiness but it’s not what I’d expect from a brown, either.

Bottle. Poured a clear dark reddish brown with a big foamy tan head. Aroma was rich malt, nutty with notes of chocolate and caramel. Flavor is dry nutty roasted malts with a hint of sweetness. Creamy feel with a medium body.

Dark brown almost black with a light brown head. Light malt aroma and very thin and dry on the the palate. Seems more like a dark lager than a brown ale.

I like a few Abita beers (Purple Haze, Fall Fest, Restoration Ale) But I was not too impressed with the Turbodog. There was no definitive smell to the beer. The color and appearance looked good but that taste just didnt back it up. It has the hints of chocolate and a little coffee to it. Overall I was not too impressed with this beer.
