Bottle poured into a dimpled mug. Pours dark brown, garnet when held to the light, with a large, frothy, beige head that lasts quite a while. Bold roasted malt with nutty and earthy notes in the background. Medium to full-bodied, slick and moderately carbonated with a roasted finish on the tip of the tongue. Warm/soft toasted malts and chocolate with just enough hop backing to tune down the sweetness level. A touch of bandage in the aftertaste keeps me from scoring this one higher. Not a bad brown though.

Sep 4, 2008 Dark brown pour with a thick foamy tan head. Aroma of burnt malt, molasses and funky yeast. Flavor wasn’t nearly as interesting. The burnt malt seems to overpower everything else. A bit thin on the palate. Not too impressive.

Aug 27, 2008 Pours a watery black from the bottle with an almost fizzy tan head. Yeast and faint molasses on the nose with flavors of dark cocoa, toasted malts, and copper in the taste. Appears to be a stout, but tastes very much like an unbalanced brown.

Aug 26, 2008 Dark with ruby highlights and thin white head hardly a hint of aroma. Slight burnt roastiness/coffee thin palate (seems typical of the Abita’s I’ve had). Not sure if this wants to be a stout or dark lager with the roasiness but it’s not what I’d expect from a brown, either.

Aug 26, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear dark reddish brown with a big foamy tan head. Aroma was rich malt, nutty with notes of chocolate and caramel. Flavor is dry nutty roasted malts with a hint of sweetness. Creamy feel with a medium body.
