Abita Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of British pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate-toffee like flavor.

I poured this beer from the bottle, noticing a deep, almost opaque reddish-brown color and a modest beige head that settles to a thin film of foam. The aroma is initially has rich, caramel sweetness, but the wonderful sweetness somehow seemed to evaporate with the head and faded to little more than a dull combination of mild lactose-like sweetness, some musty hops, and an afternote of dry cocoa. The flavor is marginally better but still sadly bland, with a light, sweet blend of milk chocolate and a mildest noticeable toffee character, although each characteristic seems to develop nicely as the beer warms. The texture is good enough, with a nice medium body that is lightened by a fine carbonation. Overall, although certainly drinkable, the superficial flavor profile leaves much to be desired.

Bottle at a salamander party. Cocoa, malty, sweet, brown sugar, slight nutty aromas and flavors. Passable brown, but probably wouldn’t get again.

Draft @ Crowne Plaza. Slightly sweet aroma. Clear, dark brown color (like root beer) with off white head that fades. Sweet flavor, kind of thin body. Not a bad brown ale, but could have a little more complexity.

Just not at all appealing. Bad taste and even a worst aftertaste. Won’t be having again.

Picked this up in Dresden a few months ago. I can’t recall having seen any Abita beer since New Orleans 2005 so I jumped at the chance. Wish they would have had the full range. This was a pretty decent Broon ale. Better than e RB scores would suggest but probably worse than I remember it being. Dark fruity malt. treacly. I enjoyed it.

Bottiglia 35 cl.

355ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with average, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, hints of treacle, a touch of toffee and chocolate. Taste is slightly dry, dark malty, notes of toffee, hints of chocolate, a touch of treacle and liquorice, minimally soapy, hoppy overtones. Narrow and restricted, anaemic, hitting just a fraction of the taste buds.

From a 355ml bottle on 16/4/2016. Pours a deep brown with a big head. the nose is very, malty, with caramel, toffee and nuts. The flavour follows suit. More caramel, toffee and nuts, with molasses and treacle. Has a very mild bitterness, fullish body and modest carbonation. This a nice , quite sweet brown ale.

Bottle from Saturday Shirt and poured into a pint glass. Brown in color with tannish head. Aroma has some nuttiness and malty notes. Taste is very mild with some minor raisin sweetness, slight roasted malt, and a little bitterness. Mouthfeel is thin with a quick finish. Nothing too interesting going on but drinkable. Turbodog sounds like a ballpark food which is appropriate for the Twins home opener today.
