3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 bark (255) - Linköping, SWEDEN - OCT 2, 2004
The colour is clear, deep brown with a tingle of amber. The foam is white and it dissolves in moderate speed from a large head of big bubbles to a small, compact one (without crater).
The delicate smell has got an unusual scent of chalk and sweet canned peas, but there are also notes of very dry hops and burned malt.
The fresh and strong carbonation keeps just on the right side of the border from being prickly. The carbon dioxide last through the whole gulp, and it is leaving a somewhat fizzy feel.
The first taste is a burned, malt flavour that develops into a fine mix of sweet malt and a good bitterness from the hops. There is a somewhat sour taste that is replaced with a mild bitterness. Somewhere in the aftertaste, a clear and almost chalk-like dry bitterness is balanced with a noticeable saltiness.
This is yet another fine dark lager (it seems like a lot of those is introduced right now, may it be some kind of trend?) that works with some unusual, really dry notes.
Oh, the name. It translates into "the Master Brewer’s Best Dark Lager".
