All the Swedish Jul beers are sweater and more spicy than their American counterparts. Certainly worth a try. On draught in Stockholm is the way to drink them but the cans are nice additions to your collection and easier to smuggle home....

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2003 (2003 version, ABV= 7,2%) Aroma is sweet, like candy, toffee. Flavor is toffee as well, sweet but in a very good way. A wonderful x-mas beer.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2003 (This bottle was the 2003 version and the ABV is 7.0) Golden color, very nice off white head. Aroma is beautiful from toffee and vanilla. Sweet with a little candy in it. Flavor is toffee as well, mild and with a discreet bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is very well hidden.

Bottle, 7.0%. Clear dark brown colour. Small tan head. Good roasted flavour, slightly vinous. Balanced by good sweetness, not too much, though. Full mouthfeel, slightly swelling. A little soy sauce in the finish.

Bottled. Copper colored body with a beige head. The aroma is malty and lightly grainy, with caramel and some roastiness. Flavor is malty, with caramel, some spicyness and hops. Medium body. A balanced beer. (060428)

Bottle 0.5 l. Dark cola red with disappearing head. Nose is slightly sweet candyish with hay, like the haygoat on label. Flavor is nicely burnt with some salty bread, liqourice and cigar. Actually very big, good and strangely balanced. Big surprise, I wasn’t expecting anything special. Alcohol is nicely warming.

wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, FINLAND - AUG 26, 2010
from old notes Clear, red-brown hue beneath a light tan head. Date and prune sweetness in the nose with contrasting leather dryness and a bit of chocolate. Mild sweetness made bright by roast and acidity, mild tannins, light bitterness. Oily, thick-ish and well carbonated.

Tasty though not particularly expressive in the nose.

50 cl bottle, best before 14 October 2009.

omhper (17431) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 24, 2002
Re-rate December 2002, bottled: Nut brown. Butterscotchy and fruity nose. Sweet and near full bodied, really malty with notes of plums and pepper. A solid traditional christmas bock with pleasant salty, really bitter finish.
Old (2001) rating: A dark brown christmas bock. Lots of malt, but syrupy sweet. Toffee and plum flavours. Medium bitterness. I usually don’t like my lagers this sweet, but in this case I find it OK. (6/3/5/3/12)

Bottled. A nice surprise! Dark golden with a firm head and vanilla and toffee in the aroma. Rather dry with well-hidden alcohol. Vanilla and toffee-flavour.
