COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: It’s uncertain if they changed the beer, but it’s presented as Bruin at the brewery’s cafe. Formerly known as Achel 5 Amber

(Draught@Achel) Opaque dark brown with a smallish, lasting and lacy head. Mild, caramely-malty aroma. Flavor of caramely malt, some dried fruit, hint of licorice and coriander spiciness. Almost medium body, soft carbonation. Very clean and quite good for the ABV, but maybe it wouldn’t be a huge commercial success.

Draught: Medium creamy to light tan head, disappears slowly, on top of a cloudy to hazy brown colored beer. Smell sweets, darker druits, caramel, toasted barley malts, some spices and herby malts. Taste is a mix of hop bitter with some sweets from sugars and darker fruits, there are some spices, caramel, herbs, grains, yeast, some malts, barley malts and there is a hint of something light liquorice in the far distance. Aftertaste is sweet bitter with a touch of grainy malts and darker fruits. Low to medium carbo, soft yet light spicy mouthfeel, medium body and a light creamy texture.

Zelfde verhaal als bij de Achel 5 Blond, in tegenstelling tot zijn tegenganger, de 8 Bruin, bevat deze veel minder smaak. Precies de 8 met wat water erbij gekapt.

Dunkler, herb-bitterer Antrunk, eher wenig aromatisch. Das Malz ist geringfügig röstig, ebenso die Hefigkeit. Wässrig-bitterer Abgang mit wenig Malzeinfluss. 10/7/9/7//7

In abbazia. Belgian ale ambrata, dava un po’ la sensazione di "annacquato", leggermente watery.

On tap at the Achel cafe during last week’s trip to Belgium. Reviewed from notes. Surprisingly, this one was not served in an Achel chalice, but rather just a plain chalice. A bit disappointing. Pours a medium brown color with a bit off-white head and loads of lacing on the way down. The nose brings some faint notes of dark fruit plus a bit of brown sugar. The flavor is somewhat bitter and a bit too dry in the finish. Mild sweetness and faint dark fruit. Nothing complex or too compelling; probably worth a try though.

Tap @ brewery. Dark brown color, cloudy. Only hints of bread and milk chocolate in the aroma. Thin to medium bodied. Watery mouthfeel. Soft roast flavor with raisinny notes. Slightly bready. Soft raisin and malt finish. Distant cellar flavor. Take your time drinking this beer, it is served way too cold.

Served way too cold. A bit cloudy purple brown beer, creamy light beige head, adhesive, fairly stable. Aroma: very fruity, caramel, malts. MF: light carbon, light to medium body. TAste: bitter start, some malts, citrus, bit grassy even. Aftertaste: citrus, little bitter, some milk chocolate and red berries on warming up.

Tap @ Achelse Kluis, Belgium.
Pours ruby red brown with a small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has mild maltiness, some caramel, raisins, molasses and a hint of chocolate. Medium carbonation, sadly a bit thin. The flavour is not excactly weak, more subdued. Light sweet, some malts and raisins. Nice aroma, rather weak flavour.

Tap. Average sized dense off white head over a clear dark garnet body. Strong grain-bread aroma with some earthy spiceyness. Very little taste in the body of the beer, with a roasted malt bitterness to the finish. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation.

Wonderful hop aroma intertwined with roasty-sweet duble. Roasty-earth hop flavor with a hint of sweetness, subtle strong roasty finish that lingers. Nice complexity Lighter mouthfeel with an underlying hop-pine citrus. Deep amber-brown-orane color. Thin white head.
