Frovigalning (398), , Sweden Nov 8, 2009 It poured a hazy golden liquid with a big white foam that left allot of lacing. Also some yeast in the bottle that dissapeared when I poured it.
It had a fruity smell of oranges, apples and yeast.
The mouthfeel was stingy with a high carbonation, which hid the flavours at first. But after swirling it around a bit it got better and the beer started to blossom. The fruits where the first come out and I noticed some citrus, oranges in particular and apples. It also had a yeast taste.
Once again a nice beer but the Bruin was better, would have been fun to try them side by side HenrikSoegaard (4263), Randers, Denmark Oct 30, 2009 Bottle. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Powerfull malty and hoppy and fruity aroma. Moderate bitter vry fruity almost trippel like flavor. Long great moderate bitter nice finish. Creamy palate. Wonderfull beer. bluebetty (92), Australia Oct 28, 2009 Bottle. Pours a cloudy deep golden with a fair amount of yeast on the bottom. Large white head thanks to heaps of carbonation. Aromas are dominated by pair with perhaps a little candi, banana and clove. Initisally trelatively sweet but quite dry on the finish. Flavours are similar to aromas with bubblegum also showing up. Overall a great beer. mcdav2154 (295), Germany Oct 19, 2009 Wow this is very carbonated and fizzy! About as fizzy as my wife’s champagne. Hazy golden color with a white head. No lacing. Smell is of yeast and bubblegum. Taste is also yeasty with notes of bubblegum and some citrus. Dry and short finish. Good brew. poroukas (7), Larnaca, Cyprus does not count Oct 19, 2009 Clear and golden.Flavor is fruity. I think is the top beer of achel. But you can’t find the alcohol until the end. A good one! delnoche (212), Germany Oct 17, 2009 33cl bottle poured into an Achel Trappist glass. Sparkling gold with two finger white creamy head. Aroma is candy sugar and spice, maybe clove. Flavor is basically the same with a bit of alcohol. Medium carbonation. Short finish is bitter with some spice and alcohol. Nice brew. Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Oct 11, 2009 THOUGHTS: Finally found an Achel beer. Very nice. This proves that trappists make some of the best beers in the world. Hid alcohol fairly well.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured an ever so slightly cloudy, medium to dark gold with the most beautiful carbonation I think I’ve ever seen in a beer. It had a large, fluffy, slightly off-white head that mostly lasted, leaving thick, clingy foam coating the whole side of the glass. The aroma was light candy sugar, moderate to heavy floral and fruity yeast with notes of banana, apricot, peach and pear with a lighter, doughy yeast aroma. There was also slight alcohol, spices and white wine. The initial flavor was sweet; while the finish was less sweet and bitter with an average duration. There was peach, pear, lots of fruity and floral notes, hops and a lot of yeast. The medium body was fairly dry with soft, yet fizzy carbonation and a light alcoholic finish. GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Oct 11, 2009 The beer pours out a cloudy golden orange color with a nice frothy white head with tight bubbles and drippy lacing. Aroma is old oranges, yeast, perfumy with a bit of earth and dirty metal. Flavor is musty oranges, yeast, alcohol, a bit tart and bitter, with a bit of candied fruit. Body is sublimely velvety smooth and silky. Nothing brash or biting. Really nice.
