COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A pale, strong, fruity, hoppy Trappist ale from one of Belgium’s six official abbey breweries. Achel 8° is hard to find even in Belgium; in the U.S. it’s up there with the rarest of beers. This blond, flavorful beer is a surprisingly refreshing brew at 8% alcohol by volume. It is lightly filtered, but still wholesomely hazy with yeast remaining and refermenting in the bottle.

Bottle. Shiny golden body with a thick white head. Aroma is full of fruitness and spicy yeast esters, subtle honey and malt notes. Yeasty taste, sweet fruits, light grassy. Sweet and spicy finish with a light bitterness. Tickling carbonation.

Agradável, equilibrada, porém inferior a Duvel e Delirium Tremens.

Purchased online from Beautiful Beers, drunk at home. Light gold, plentiful carbonation. Big, big thick white head. Aroma dominated by clove and cinnamon, a bit of buttered toast. A slightly sharp scent I’m not crazy about in the background. Sweet and spicy honeyed taste. Not cloying but not especially exciting either. Finish is warm and alcoholic. A bitter, slightly acrid finish. By Trappist standards this is pretty low, but by any other standard it’s very nice indeed.

Clear golden, frothy white head. Arima is fruity, yeasty, a little earthy. I also get malt and some light caramel. Flavour is sweet and strong, dried fruit and warming alcohol. Carb is lively, nice bitter finish.

Clear golden of color with a white head. An aroma of fruits, hops, peach, sweets, honey and hops. A flavor of honey, herbs, spice, earth, dusty, bitter and dry.

The youngest of the trappist breweries, at least if one does not consider the fact that they had been brewing up till 1918; this triple version shows a yellowish, delicately lacing foam above a warm orange-blonde colour, near bright but still a bit veiled, with quiet sparkling; aroma spicy and malty with hints of pink grapefruit, freshly grated ginger, pineapple, bread dough, old cheese, honey, thyme and damp clothes; taste begins citrussy with some sweet, exotic fruit, mineral, quickly overwhelmed by a soft, pils- and caramel-like maltiness, ever so slightly nutty, vividly spicy accents, aftertaste leafy and somewhat peppery hoppy, medium in length with a hint of gin-like alcohol, but nowhere astringent or disturbing. Clearly more balanced than ten years ago.
