COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A pale, strong, fruity, hoppy Trappist ale from one of Belgium’s six official abbey breweries. Achel 8° is hard to find even in Belgium; in the U.S. it’s up there with the rarest of beers. This blond, flavorful beer is a surprisingly refreshing brew at 8% alcohol by volume. It is lightly filtered, but still wholesomely hazy with yeast remaining and refermenting in the bottle.

It has a hazy yellow/orange colored body with lots of carbonation rising up to the head. The just off white head is very tall and thick like a meringue. It is very slow fading and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. The aroma has an earthy and bready yeast like character with a touch of funk (horse blanket) and spicy hops. The flavor has the same funky bready yeast character from the aroma but with hints of fruity apple and pear notes. On the palate it has a smooth creamy texture with mild carbonation and the finish has a touch of spicy hop flavor and light bitterness for some balance.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Supermarket Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a murky yellow orange appearance with a white head. The aroma is quite nice. Very floral. Lemon, lilies, and minerals. Nice yeasty notes. Soft mouth feel. Somewhat chewy malts. Maybe a touch past its prime but still has some vibrant fruity and yeasty notes. Oranges and tangerines. Dull banana flavor. A bit bready. Fairly high carbonation. Quite smooth at 8%. This was very nice.

33cl bottle. Pours light, hazy golden with a quickly disappearing white head. Light smell of yeast and sweet malts with some spices. Taste is lots of malts, belgian yeast, very light sweet fruits, noble hops. Good, mildly bitter aftertaste.

Appearance- golden, a bit cloudy, a big pillowy white head which hangs around for a while. Aroma- malts, cereal hints, spices, lemons. Taste- a full mouthfeel, hop bitterness, malt backbone, spices, fruity, some yeast, almost a sweetness in the middle of the mouth. Very tasty.
