COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A pale, strong, fruity, hoppy Trappist ale from one of Belgium’s six official abbey breweries. Achel 8° is hard to find even in Belgium; in the U.S. it’s up there with the rarest of beers. This blond, flavorful beer is a surprisingly refreshing brew at 8% alcohol by volume. It is lightly filtered, but still wholesomely hazy with yeast remaining and refermenting in the bottle.

33cl bottle@home in Trappist glass@approx 12 degrees C. Pours ever so slightly misty golden with finger white head. Wonderful aroma of hay, grass, yest, bread and hoppy freshness. Medium body, moderate carbonation with a creamy mouthfeel from the tiny bubbles. Taste echoes the aroma: Malt, bread, citrus fruits, a hint of yeast and sweetness. Alchohol kept well in check but does manifest itself positively in the slightly bitter lingering aftertaste. Very well balanced beer and each mouthfull is slightly different than the one before it. Why are so few beers like this gem? Very, very good stuff!

Drank this one in Antwerpian pub. Appearance and nose are decent. The palate is what stands off - fresh and fruity, yet creamy and easily drinkable. High reccomendation.

330ml bottle at home from Whole Food, Giffnock (£2.69):
Appearance wise this beer was okay and the smell wasn’t particularly interesting but the taste of this one was exceptional and the balance was excellent as well. Despite coming in at 8% abv. the alcohol content was remarkably well hidden and the beer went down very easily with a light, sweet and fruity taste that was distinctly Belgian with some yeast and plenty of spices coming through from the start.
