COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A pale, strong, fruity, hoppy Trappist ale from one of Belgium’s six official abbey breweries. Achel 8° is hard to find even in Belgium; in the U.S. it’s up there with the rarest of beers. This blond, flavorful beer is a surprisingly refreshing brew at 8% alcohol by volume. It is lightly filtered, but still wholesomely hazy with yeast remaining and refermenting in the bottle.

Złote, zamglone piwo o obfitej pianie, która zdobi szkło i pozostaje do końca w postaci warstewki na powierzchni. Aromat owocowy i ziołowy dość intensywny.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 26A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 15 22:49. AROMA: high malt aroma with sweet notes, mixed with a moderate-high spicy alcohol, and moderate-high fruity esters (pears and slight oranges). Hop aroma imperceptible, The alcohol evolves into a perfumy character. APPEARANCE: strong glod color and translucent. medium to large off-white to ivory head with medium-low retention. some leg formation. FLAVOR: initial malty sweet flavor of moderate intensity, followed by spicy phenols and more restrained fruity esters (faint pears). Medium bitterness to support the malt and a semi-dry to dry finish. PALATE: medium to medium-high carbonation, with a smooth texture as well a present alcohol warmth, but not hot. some leg formation. medium body. OVERALL: a nice trapppist single with a lot of aroma commplexity and a balanced flavor between sweetness and bitterness, giving it an almost dry finish. however, it would gain from more bitterness, more hop presence, and less alcohol warmth.

Different in appearance from other Trappist, looks almost like a lager. Very nicely balanced, and incredibly easy to drink for an 8%. Another great Trappist beer.

Shared 11.2 oz. bottle. Pours a light golden color with a slight haze and a fairly large white head. Aroma is hay, bread, Belgian yeast, and some spice with some fruitiness. Taste follows, with some banana notes. Pretty good.

Aroma: lightly malty with some honey undertones; Appearance: hazy blond with fluffy white head that dissipates slowly; good lacing; Taste: sweet and slightly yeasty/wheaty; fruity; Palate: medium body with long, sweet finish; Overall: very pleasant; would buy again when wanting a light, sweet Belgian.

Bottle from Koht. BB 12.11.2016. Wants to jump out the bottle upon opening... Pours slightly hazy golden with a creamy white, persistent and lacing head. The aroma is grainy-wheaty-yeasty-fruity. Bubblegum in retronasals, tastes sweet with a citric bitter finish. Crisp, light and refreshing on the palate. Really nice soothing warmth, but not at all boozy, in fact, the drinkability of this is awesome. Very good overall, but falls short of my expectations. I guess it would be better more fresh - at points I got some near strange hints in the aroma. Dunno, considering the price tag, I’d stick with Tripel Karmeliet.
