33cl bottle poured into an Achel Trappist glass. Sparkling gold with two finger white creamy head. Aroma is candy sugar and spice, maybe clove. Flavor is basically the same with a bit of alcohol. Medium carbonation. Short finish is bitter with some spice and alcohol. Nice brew.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Heathen (1241) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - OCT 11, 2009
THOUGHTS: Finally found an Achel beer. Very nice. This proves that trappists make some of the best beers in the world. Hid alcohol fairly well.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured an ever so slightly cloudy, medium to dark gold with the most beautiful carbonation I think I’ve ever seen in a beer. It had a large, fluffy, slightly off-white head that mostly lasted, leaving thick, clingy foam coating the whole side of the glass. The aroma was light candy sugar, moderate to heavy floral and fruity yeast with notes of banana, apricot, peach and pear with a lighter, doughy yeast aroma. There was also slight alcohol, spices and white wine. The initial flavor was sweet; while the finish was less sweet and bitter with an average duration. There was peach, pear, lots of fruity and floral notes, hops and a lot of yeast. The medium body was fairly dry with soft, yet fizzy carbonation and a light alcoholic finish.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 GG (1980) - NorCal, California, USA - OCT 11, 2009
The beer pours out a cloudy golden orange color with a nice frothy white head with tight bubbles and drippy lacing. Aroma is old oranges, yeast, perfumy with a bit of earth and dirty metal. Flavor is musty oranges, yeast, alcohol, a bit tart and bitter, with a bit of candied fruit. Body is sublimely velvety smooth and silky. Nothing brash or biting. Really nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BeerChaser0078 (846) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - OCT 8, 2009
Bottle. A gusher! Pours golden orange with a fluffy white head that lasts till the end. Aroma is quite yeasty with notes of honey, cinnamon, banana and apples. Flavour is similar with additional hints of pear, lemon, ginger and a little bit of malt. Medium body with lively carbonation, this is a particularly refreshing belgian ale. It might not be the best of the trappist blondes, but it’s a damn fine beer in its own right.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2009 Bottle from Sam’s. Pours clear deep gold, but nice cloudy bits at the bottom make for a hazy pour. Big foamy, gauzy white head (two-finger) that recedes into a lasting cover with good retention. Aroma of overripe bananas, Belgian sugar, some earthy yeast, mild cinnamon and caramel. Similar taste, with added rotten apple notes (in a good way). Tasty.
