COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A pale, strong, fruity, hoppy Trappist ale from one of Belgium’s six official abbey breweries. Achel 8° is hard to find even in Belgium; in the U.S. it’s up there with the rarest of beers. This blond, flavorful beer is a surprisingly refreshing brew at 8% alcohol by volume. It is lightly filtered, but still wholesomely hazy with yeast remaining and refermenting in the bottle.

Pours a slightly hazy light orange color. Thick white head leaving lots of lacing. Aroma of honey, spices, sweet bread, candy sugar, and a floral hint. Flavors were loaded with sweetness, lots of honey, sweet bread, candy, and a touch of bitterness. Well balanced for the style. Well carbonated with a nice sticky finish. One of the better examples of this style.

Drank 24-9-16 during my leftover/goodbye tasting. Nice tripel, not that typical triple taste but some sweetness.

Bottle 330ml - cellared for approximately 1-2 years. Served at cellar temperature. Pours hazy golden. Head is large, white, foamy and mostly lasting. Aroma is of floral/perfumed hops; sourdough, lemon citrus, red apples, dried pineapple, candy, hay, cinnamon, cloves and coriander. Flavour is smooth with a light floral/perfumed hop bitterness; lemon zest, pears, passionfruit (light), honey, tangy grains, hay, clove, cinnamon and notes of fresh herbs and pepper in the finish. Medium to full bodied with lively carbonation and a long finish.

Bottle. Color: Rather light golden, white long lasting frothy head. Taste: Complex mix of yeast, medium sweet malts and floral hops. Hints of herbs in the background. Dry, frothy mouthfeel. Nice finish, tending to the hoppy side. No pronounced taste, smooth and easy drinkable beer.

Bottle 33.

A yummy triple. Nice color and head. Nice aromas. Tastewise though there is nothing that makes it really stand out. Solid but not amazing.

Maravillosa.

Forte, strutturata, gusto pieno e avvincente.

Pours clear golden with beige head. Aroma has light malt with biscuit and caramel, and somewhat sweet. Taste has light malt with biscuit and caramel and some fruityness and light spices and ends in a balanced sweet, tasty and semi-dry finish.

Nice round triple. However rare it it is supposed to be, that doesn’t make it special. It is good, especially the aftertaste, but it lacks identity on the taste.
