COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A pale, strong, fruity, hoppy Trappist ale from one of Belgium’s six official abbey breweries. Achel 8° is hard to find even in Belgium; in the U.S. it’s up there with the rarest of beers. This blond, flavorful beer is a surprisingly refreshing brew at 8% alcohol by volume. It is lightly filtered, but still wholesomely hazy with yeast remaining and refermenting in the bottle.

Clear golden of color with a white head. An aroma of fruits, hops, peach, sweets, honey and hops. A flavor of honey, herbs, spice, earth, dusty, bitter and dry.

The youngest of the trappist breweries, at least if one does not consider the fact that they had been brewing up till 1918; this triple version shows a yellowish, delicately lacing foam above a warm orange-blonde colour, near bright but still a bit veiled, with quiet sparkling; aroma spicy and malty with hints of pink grapefruit, freshly grated ginger, pineapple, bread dough, old cheese, honey, thyme and damp clothes; taste begins citrussy with some sweet, exotic fruit, mineral, quickly overwhelmed by a soft, pils- and caramel-like maltiness, ever so slightly nutty, vividly spicy accents, aftertaste leafy and somewhat peppery hoppy, medium in length with a hint of gin-like alcohol, but nowhere astringent or disturbing. Clearly more balanced than ten years ago.

Appearance with amber color, cloudy liquid and high foaming (excellent belgian lacing). Fruity and caramel aroma. TSeet and fruity flavor with alcohol properly inserted. Taste sour and bitter. Excellent tripel.

It has a hazy yellow/orange colored body with lots of carbonation rising up to the head. The just off white head is very tall and thick like a meringue. It is very slow fading and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. The aroma has an earthy and bready yeast like character with a touch of funk (horse blanket) and spicy hops. The flavor has the same funky bready yeast character from the aroma but with hints of fruity apple and pear notes. On the palate it has a smooth creamy texture with mild carbonation and the finish has a touch of spicy hop flavor and light bitterness for some balance.

Très très bonne blonde, en plus une trappiste! L’étiquette serait surement à changer mais le contenu surement pas.
