A pale, strong, fruity, hoppy Trappist ale from one of Belgium’s six official abbey breweries. Achel 8° is hard to find even in Belgium; in the U.S. it’s up there with the rarest of beers. This blond, flavorful beer is a surprisingly refreshing brew at 8% alcohol by volume. It is lightly filtered, but still wholesomely hazy with yeast remaining and refermenting in the bottle.

Golden yellow with good head and sticky lace. Lemon and yeast aroma with some sweet fruit. Sweet fruity, yeasty flavor. Mild hops add some bitterness and slight alcohol adds warmth. Carbonation is above average. Very nice and different from other Trappists I have enjoyed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drank this one in Antwerpian pub. Appearance and nose are decent. The palate is what stands off - fresh and fruity, yet creamy and easily drinkable. High reccomendation.

330ml bottle at home from Whole Food, Giffnock (£2.69):
Appearance wise this beer was okay and the smell wasn’t particularly interesting but the taste of this one was exceptional and the balance was excellent as well. Despite coming in at 8% abv. the alcohol content was remarkably well hidden and the beer went down very easily with a light, sweet and fruity taste that was distinctly Belgian with some yeast and plenty of spices coming through from the start.

2015-04-19 - This is a very nice beer, although it is in a simple bottle, it has a very sofisticated taste!

Surprisingly crisp, sweet to the taste, but not sweet, mostly a dry and tangy effect. Very delicious and a well crafted blond. Color and appearance are great, with an endless carbonation bubble from the bottom of the glass.

Bottle - hazy golden with a huge fluffy white head. Aroma of cloves, wheat, yeast and a little alcohol. Taste of cloves, earth, grassy and slight sourness with yeast and light bitterness in the finish. Soapy, dry mouthfeel with low carbonation.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2015 Beautiful apperance. Golden with a creamy white head. Aromas are banana-like typical for belgian yeast, and citrus. Compared to other trappists it is quite dry and not too boozy. Quite carbonated. Not very complex but not cloying at all. A good compromise.
