3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Silvan7 (134) - Samarate, ITALY - APR 16, 2013
Bottle @ inseparables. buon profumo fruttato (banana) dolce con sentori speziati. Schiuma biancastra, birra rossa, quasi rame. Gusto intenso alcolico un po’ speziato e dolciastro.Non ho mai provato la Extra, ma già qui si tratta di una birra di livello altissimo, con gusti complessi, di frutta candita, caramello e un bel calore alcolico
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 kraddel (851) - deurne, BELGIUM - APR 15, 2013
i , for one, thought there was onley blond en bruin - version of the beer. appearently, i was wrong...
but anyway, this is the one i’ve popped open , at home.
pours clear, very dark and deep red/brown .
white foam, big bubbles, fades fast.
smell isnt intence, sweet
taste is common for the style, yet not TOO sweet ( as is even more common ... ) . a bit like, you’d take a belgian brown ale, but less intence, less sweet, more earthyness, more complexity, in a way . wich makes it better than most ’ commercial’ brown ales i’ve drank so far,
tasty stuff, i wouldn’t mind having more of this one day . yet i would’nt especialy seek it out .

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ACD (337) - Dublin, IRELAND - MAR 25, 2013
33cl bottle from Probus Wines, Dublin. Pours hazy mahogany with a thin, lasting off-white head - loads of lacing, Aroma gives a lot of yeasty banana and clove phenols with a thick breadiness, plenty of dark fruit and sweet sherry notes too. Taste follows suit, with a lots of dark and red fruit being followed by banana, spices, and bready caramel notes.Medium/full mouthfeel. Great balance. A classic.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 NikkTwist (885) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 19, 2013
Bottle at Monks. Cloudy dark brown with a large foamy tan head. Runny lace. Tastes like a traditional Belgium Dubbel, though a bit weaker than other Trappists (Westmalle most notably.) Tastes of raisins. Prunes. Sulfered figs and apricots. Lots of caramel malt. Faint medicinal notes in the aroma. Medium body. Decent beer but not my favorate.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jeremyh70 (351) - Missouri, USA - MAR 17, 2013
Pours a hazy burgundy brown with big off white head and good lacing. Aromas of dried dark fruit and some apple, Belgian yeast and some spiciness. Flavors of dark fruits with brown sugar sweetness and some mild spice and yeastiness. Finish has a hint of apple tartness. High carbonation that helps give the beer a medium-full mouthfeel. Finishes somewhat sweet but still fairly dry. Nice Trappist dubbel.

A bubbly, medium brown with generous white head. Smells of peach, sour, apple, banana, tomato, caramel. Sweet fruity taste, bubbly, caramel, brown sugar. A good sweet Belgian, perhaps a little too sweet, but solid nonetheless.
