3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 savnac (1365) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - AUG 8, 2010
330ml bottle. Pours copper/brown with a thick rocky head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of bready malt, noble hops, dark fruit and light musty yeast. Flavor of slightly sour and earthy yeast, medium hop bitterness and lightly sweet malt. Medium body with prickly carbonation and a frothy mouth feel. Good beer, the hop bitterness and aroma sets this apart from some of the other Trappist products. Although, I think I prefer some of the other Trappist breweries.

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy orange/brown with big frothy head that leaves a solid lace. Very nutty on the nose with brown sugar/caramel behind and undertones of roastiness. Surprisingly light in flavour with an almost tannic bite. Meh.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JDBaker11058 (616) - Maryland, USA - JUL 25, 2010
Appearance: dark brown with ruby notes; tan head. Aroma: brown sugar and caramel; ginger snaps and pepper. Taste: sweet malts and candied brown sugar, slightly balanced by a light, peppery bitterness. Finish: clean and sweet, then a bit of a whiskey warmth at the back of the throat. Notes: Very nice. Similar to the Chimay Red but not quite as good. Still, very pleasant and very drinkable.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jaghana (1803) - Strasbourg (France), FRANCE - JUL 17, 2010
Bottle 33cl. A cloudy brown ale with a very huge brownish head that goes down slowly with nice lacing. Smell is on yeast and some grassy hay with toasted notes. Aroma is on candy sugar, some spices, bit agrume and acid. The malty character is low to medium, finish is medium with grassy and toasted notes. Bit disappointing for a brown trappist.
