3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ron (1574) - Rochester, New York, USA - SEP 4, 2011
Pours reddish cooper with a long lasting head. Aroma is dough, dark fruits, yeast and earthyness. Taste is sweet with the alcohol hidden well. Some bitterness on the finish, but a solid trappist offering. Thanks Dan for bringing it to the Islands.

Very nice stuff. Dan brought this to the 1000 islands for the beer tasting. Seemed like a dubbel to me. Brown and murky. Doughy malty notes in the nose, a bit sour in the mouth, but satisfying.

Bottle. Poured dark brown with little head. Very spicy with notes of sugar, dark fruits and dark malty sweetness. Very good.

11.2 ounce bottle purchased over a year ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($5.89). Pours into my Chimay goblet a very nice ruddy brown hue with a truly impressive big foamy beige head (with lots of good lacing)...a great looking ale. Aroma of smooth rich caramel, dark artisan bread (with nuts), brown sugar, and raisin. Flavor of more rich caramel, dark yeasty bread, lots of fruit (raisins, candied dates, and more), and brown sugar. Surprisingly creamy and not overly sweet. But there is unfortunately a bit of metallic bitterness at the very end which seems to be the only real negative point. Well-hidden alcohol. Very good Trappist ale! (892, 601)

330ml bottle from Appellation. Pours a deep hazel colour with a huge light tan head. Biscuity malt aroma of Ovaltine and Weetabix with a fair whack of alcohol. Alcohol is also fairly prominent flavour-wise with caramel, raisin and candy sugar notes. Foamy mouth-feel from the high carbonation and a long caramel linger with some CO2 prickle and mild bitterness. Too fizzy for me.

Brown, but very light when held to the light. Light tan head. Aroma is bread crust and tart black berry, very light and appetizing. Flavor is light/dry apple/blackberry with a clean and clear alcohol presence. A light nutty breadiness appears as it warms. Very drinkable, lovely, but for the abv, I’d like a more intense flavor. This tastes like it should be a session Belgian. Still, it is clearly masterfully brewed.

Cloudy light brown color, with strong delicious malts. It is a medium body palate

Pours brown with a good-sized head. Nose is banana, a bit of syrup, and a bit of alcohol. Flavor is banana and a bit of syrupy, brown-sugar sweetness. Really good carbonation and mouthfeel. This is a nice beer, but nothing extraordinary.
