Dark amber colored with a nice thick head. Fruity, earthy and yeasty aroma. Complex and strong malty flavor dominated by earthy fruits and spices. A balanced beer and one of the better trappists.

Bottle. Lots of foam on this, aroma is sweet. Nice dark brown color. Sweet, spicy, syrup like flavor, alot going on with this beer. Good, but not my favorite.

Poured a deep brown color ale with a huge foamy head with perfect retention. Aroma of cookie dough malt is just about perfect. Taste is also dominated by cookie dough malt with some nice sweet malt and a mild yeasty finish. Alcohol was well concealed with a nice full body.

Bottle that I picked up in Belgium in 2009. Poured into Chimay glass. Nice fluffy and soft head, delicious aroma of raisin and caramel. It seems that some of the yeast the others are describing has subsided a bit with age. Strong flavors of dark fruit, like raisins and cherries. Really a nice drink and the alcohol is not very detectable. When the beer warms up it releases even more fruity and sweet aromas and flavors, so I suggest saving a sip and letting it warm up.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a creamy lasting white head & lacings. Aroma & taste is of malts, rye-bread, spices, caramel, yeast & dark fruits. Body is filling & soft/smooth. Long end!

kloekus (19) - NETHERLANDS - OCT 12, 2009
bottle 30 cl; aroma releases lots of sweet esters like raisins and caramel. The appearance is bright red brown with a firm foamy head on top. The taste is quite aggresive by the carbon dioxide which lets the full body explode against the palate. Very nice malty flavors that smoothly run away in the aftertaste. Very enjoyable beer.

Pours a deep brownish-orange with 2 fingers of tan head and nice lacing. Quite a lot of residue sinking to the bottom. Not much aroma, slightly sweet and fruity. Medium body - lighter than I expected for a trappist of this alcohol content. Sweet fruity flavor which lingers a long time. Finishes sliightly salty.

Bottle 33cl. Color: red/brown,cloudy with a thick beige head. Aroma: The first thing that crossed my mind was red fruits and Belgian cuberdons. So mainly sweet en sour touches, but also neutral nuts. Taste: Again sweet and sour, candy and red fruit and a little alcohol touch. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Mouthfeel is creamy but body rather watery.

Pours a nice beutiful amber. Great fruity taste. My only gripe is it is just a little two overcabornated for my taste. Seems to get in the way of the great taste.

Excellent, long-lasting frothy head--actually probably the best example of the style in this respect. This isn’t sugared-up, as some reviews (rather confusingly) assert. Pretty damned near perfect. Grossly underrated, too. I’d take this over a Rochefort 8, even, and that’s saying quite a lot.
