Persistent head with nice lacing. Fairly dry but with a nice hint of sweetness to balance it out. Subtle hints of spice; cinnamon and nutmeg. Quite good.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown with a huge, thick tan head that persists and leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of light and dark fruits (prune), Belgian yeast. Flavor of nice crisp apple, lots of Belgian yeast, some alcohol. Not as spicy or light as the Blonde, which I prefered only slightly to the Bruin. A very good Belgian, very complex.

pour deep brown, red when held up to the light, off white head. Smell fruit, nuts and some alcohol. Taste is sweet, caramel and bananas, almost no alcohol. Very good.

33 cl bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. BB 04/07/09. JN 24/08.

App.: Med-deep copper, clear, large rocky light tan froth. Aroma: Apple and pear juice, white grapes, some raisins and brown sugar, light nuts and warm spices, slight leafy hops, a bit of alcohol, light cola herbals. Palate: Medium body and soft effervescence. Flav.: Apples and pears, hazelnuts, brown sugar and raisins, light leafy hops, a bit of warm spices; sweet with a touch of bitterness and a bit of warming alcohol.

A bit more enjoyable than the blond (NEVER thought I’d say that...), but still not the party in my mouth I was expecting (or that...).

muddy murky orange brown with a head that won’t quit. it rose well beyond the rim of my trappist glass and remained like a fine dessert. the secondary pour added another layer to the head, becoming more picturesque, I had to give it a 5. there’s an unexpected soft sour funk aroma with wood and perfume. my wife should wear this behind her ears. great bruin, deep and creamy, married flavors of spun sugar, heavy cream, cherry jam, and foggy yeast in ancient wood. it’s charming and captivating like a trappist should be with all the accompanying mystique.
