Brown Orval. The first thing of note is the sour Brett aroma pouring from the ever-expanding head of this beer. This is a very light brown and demonstrates the difference between bruin and brown, nice color, crystal clear. Some very mellow malt flavors, a little more hops here than I would have expected. But there it is, the reason why I love belgians, the bugs -- brett, brett, brett. Truly a wonderful beer.

Robijnrode keur. Geur: Gebrande mout en hazelnootjes. Smaak: zoetig, wat kruidig en een vleugje zurigheid, maar mooi in balans. In de afdronk terug zoetigheid met een zuurtje.

8%ABV. Belgian Strong Beer. Poured out of the bottle a turbid black brown. 30ºSRM. Nose has the same carbonated sweetness that is remiscent of a bottle cap coming off a 7Up. There is a malty sweetness with a grain like sourness, which combined can only be described as the aroma of rye. Carbonated mouthfeel. Light and sudsy. The same flavor of a herbal tinged sweetness with a slightly rounded and mildy sour palate. "Chin Chow" again for those who know. Those who don’t may compare this quite nicely to the flavor of rye. Finish is beery and otherwise not very interesting. Malt or carb-balanced. Good traditional product and an exemplar of the style. Been done that way for some time now. So you either like it or you don’t...I suspect, they don’t really care.

Sweet lightly toasty hoppy flavour, Mildly bitter in the finish and both bitter and sweet in the mouth. Pours reddish dark brown and retains a small white head.

330 ml bottle. Bought in La mise en Biere in laussane. Deep smell, but not that complex for a trappist, good anyway. Deep golden color with white head. Taste is really really good; a classic trappist with a lot of flavour in the back. Pepper, strong malts, cereals and everything is there. A fan of Achel from now on. This has nothing to do with the beer, but the label is fucking awfull.

Bottle, 33 cl. Clear red/brown body with a foamy light beige head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of yeast. Sweet taste with light bitterness. Rich and spicy flavours. A bit of alcohol. Light body with prickly carbonation. Drier finish. Good, balanced strong ale.

Bulles fines et abondantes, très ronde et douce en bouche, caramélisée juste comme il faut, amertume absente, houblon(s) très léger(s)... bref, ça passe tout seul, un vrai délice.

Brune, haute mousse blanche. Nez malts, caramel, épices. Bouche onctueuse et sucrée, caramel, sucrée, une pointe d’amertume en fin de bouche. Belle rondeur, alcool discrétement présent.
