Not one of the best trappistes. Lacks some of the body and flavor profile of its more famous cousins. Still, a very good beer. Generous with the fruit taste and a pleasant raisin aroma. (1/16/2010)

The beer pours dark brown with ruby red highlights. The head is tope rising about 2 fingers. It loses one finger quickly but keeps the other a long time falling pillowly leaving a soapy cover for over 15 minutees. The lacing is great.
The aroma is really nice and balanced. It starts off really malty with toffee, dark fruits and a bready yeast finish.
The taste is really nice and complex, I almost like this more than Westy 8. It starts off very sweet, has a nice bitter middle then a great yeasty finish.
Overall, a very excellent dubbel.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2011 I find very little to say about this except...extraordinary. the nose is out of this world. You smell it and get rich caramel, banana, citrus, malt just pure balance. Off white head that hung around alittle. Bottle over flowed alittle. So smooth. Great trappist. Cant believe its not the oldest of them....definity not lacking in quality. Id drink 4-5 of these in a row before i realized i was slobering on myself.

Date says: 23/04/11. Poured into a White Birch Chalice. Huge foam head on this one that stays for minutes. The color is a nice nut brown. Gorgeous. The smell reveals cinnamon and a hint of dried fruit. The taste is very dry, but indicates brown sugar and cinnamon apples. The yeast character is very dominant. I am a huge fan of Belgians that are nice and dry. This is an excellent Trappist ale and I regret not trying it sooner.

Small bottle, 5 months old. Hazy brown body with a beautiful rocky head. Aroma has bananas and prunes. Taste is malty and fruity: not just sweet and sour but ripe. It leans more on the sweet side but it’s never cloying. That’s just how I prefer it sometimes.
