4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
75cl shared in a Trappist glass. Pours a nice dark brown with a billowing head. The usual dried fruits, malt and toffee harmoniously blended into a highly nourishing liquid. The example I tried was a little too warm so lost a bit of the body and over emphasized the sweetness. Next time I shall make sure it is served correctly.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A dark brown beer with a dense, medium and dark beige head. The nose is full of dark fruits, raisins, fresh plums, bananas, some spicyness and hint of warming alcohol. Dark and dried fruits dominates the taste, also plums, nicely dry, drying spicyness in the end. Medium+ bodied, high carbonation but smoothly. Smooth and riped fruits, this is delicious beer, but still the climax is missing.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours dark brown with a huge light brown head, great lace. Aroma is lush big spicy, floral rich bread, light raisins and red fruit. Flavor is a little dead acrid, not too bitter, herbal, but sweet, light grapefruit. Feel is quite watery, light gritty. Least flavor of the Trappist quads all drank side by side, still awesome. Best looking.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from "De Hopduvel". Deep chestnut brown color, big fluffy brownish head.
Aroma of burned malts, plums, raisins and hints of chocolate. Has tastes of breadish malts, sugar and toffee. The high carbonation is hiding the upcoming alcohol with a refreshing finish. A slightly bitter maltiness lingers on the tongue very long. Has a pleasant mouthfeel throughout, intensifying the impression of being a very well balanced stong beer in which the alcohol is well hidden. Starts rather sweet, while turning more bitter to the end, due to some hops, which are still dominated by the malty, sugary body of this beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue and is topped by a medium offwhite head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, brown sugar and a little spicy hops. Taste is sweet and alcoholic, lightly bitter. Taste is of candi sugar, plums and raisins. Mouthfeel is syrupy, carbonation rather low. Not bad at all!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This beer proves that old skool Trappist still has more than what it takes to keep up with the new world. Chocolate, smelly fruits, bitter roast, well placed sweetness around the edges. Just massively satisfying to drink. As a foot note this was an August 2011 bottling I grabbed as ’shareholder drawings’ from the shop and I can’t help but wonder if the 1.5yrs of age has helped its cause?

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep murky brown with one finger head and lots of floaties suspended in the beer. The smells are the usual expected of a quad/abt, being toffee, dates, raisins, plums, plus an unexpected light hay smell. Tastes are Burnt caramel, dark fruits and pink grapefruit in the finish. The mouthfeel is not as thick as expected, but I think the sweetness might feel cloying if it was thicker. Overall, this is outstanding. Very complex and nice bitterness in the finish, giving it a slight point of difference from most of the other Trappist offerings.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
75ml bottle from Bier Tempel, Brugge - Hazy deep rouge body, fluffy white head, carries through to the end. Nose is rich boozy cake fruits, caramel and a sherry-cum-fortified wine alcohol aroma. The taste is a warming soothing sweetness, lots of fruit, and a long boozy finish. Great smooth mouthfeel, with the warmth carried to the end. Superb! Happy it is such a big bottle.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml bottle, 24/12/13. Pours a dark brown with a medium-sized, yellowish brown head. Aroma is a dash of vanilla, a lot of marzipan, some apricot and caramel. Taste is a lot of caramel, some marzipan, dried dark fruits are strong. A dash of ethanol. Quite full with medium carbonation, semi-dry. Quite good, but even so a bit of a disappointment.
