3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Jeff. Brewed in 2001. Murky copper body, not much of a head with a fizzy beige collar. Aroma is very sweet, lots of dark fruits; red grapes, raisins, prunes, and plums. Touch of residual sweetness, like candi sugar. Taste is similar with lots of dark fruits, plums and prunes, decently sweet with a touch of oxidation in the sherry form with a touch of vinous/wine in the finish. Creamy, medium bodied, low carb but not bad for 11 years old. Decent, but this one is probably better fresh.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Smell with caramel, brown sugar, hop, color in dark red brown, clear with somewhat thick cream crown when pouring, taste of good amount of air, not too carbonated, right bitterness, sweet, malty, little sour, little tannin but long lasting. Right texture. Very good over all

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Great appearance with a huge foamy, tan, long lasting head, plenty of lace, and a slightly hazy, brown amber color. Aroma is figs, dates, raisins, malt, toffee, caramel. Flavor is sweet up front then the aroma characteristics, then a few odd tastes. Body is good. Finish has those odd tastes along with some residual sweetness giving it a medicinal cast. But overall, very good.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Starts very straightforward quady, feels way too simple. After some time aroma opens up some delicate fruitiness. nice malty background all the way, caramel, dried fruits, plums, dark fruits, light berry note. Bit too high carbo for my liking. Mostly sweetish with some bitterness.
Light side quad, yet smooth and quite enjoyable

German yeasts, chocolate, anise. Alcohol is well-hidden. Nice beer but not the best trappist.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml bottle
Deep ruby red brown beer. Clear first, hazy with sediment. Big blonde head. Aroma has cream fudge, herbs, earth and chocolate. Flavor has toffee, herbs, licorice and yeast. Palate is quite full and foaming. Finish has quite mild bitterness and heat of alcohol. Aftertaste feels a bit watery. Adding the sediment adds some cherriness. Cannot detect strong Belgian yeast characters, weird. I was expecting more.
